Every once in a while, you get to create something that feels especially meaningful.

This commission was one of those.

Painting Danairo wasn’t just about capturing his likeness. It was about honoring someone who tells stories through film—someone who has a gift for helping people see the world differently through the lens of a camera.

As I painted, I found myself thinking about what we actually leave behind.

Not our possessions. Not our follower count.

What lasts are the moments that change the way someone sees the world. A photograph. A film. A painting. A story that makes someone pause, remember, or finally feel understood.

As artists, we spend our lives making things that may outlive us, often without ever knowing whose life they’ll touch.

That’s a remarkable kind of legacy.

It was an honor to create this portrait for a fellow visual storyteller whose work continues to inspire others.

Here’s to telling stories that matter, no matter the medium.

Four portraits.

Four soundscapes.

One story.

Each painting in the Sound Wave collection was created by transmitting sound through wet mineral pigments, allowing music and spoken words to physically move the paint as the portrait emerged. No two patterns could ever be recreated.

Together, these pieces explore what it means to navigate a mind and body changed by illness, injury, memory, and healing. They are about interruption and resilience, fragmentation and identity, the echoes that stay with us, and finding beauty in the parts of ourselves that continue to endure.

This collection is deeply personal, but I’ve learned that the most personal stories often become the most universal.

Before Sound Wave closes tonight, I want to share the story behind this collection.

This body of work began during a season when my own life felt unfamiliar.

After a brain injury, chronic illness, and a long period of rebuilding, I found myself paying attention to things differently. I became more aware of how much we carry beneath the surface: memories, emotions, moments that change us, and the quiet signals our bodies send before we have words for them.

That experience shaped the idea behind Sound Wave.

I started exploring how something invisible could become visible. How could sound, movement, and emotion be translated into watercolor?

Using sound waves to influence the movement of paint, I allowed each piece to develop its own rhythm. The pigments settled, shifted, and created patterns that could never be repeated exactly.

Each portrait became a reminder that even the things we cannot see can leave a mark.

Sound Wave is about those unseen experiences that shape who we are.

Tonight, this collection closes as part of my new release process: four collections each year, available for seven days only. Once it closes, I move forward into creating the next body of work.

VIRGINIA WOOLF [4/4 Sound Wave Collection]

The final piece in my Sound Wave collection. Closes 7.17.26

Virginia Woolf spent much of her life exploring the invisible landscape of the mind. Through her writing, she captured memory, consciousness, emotion, and the fragmented way we experience the world. She also lived with profound mental illness, bringing a depth and honesty to her work that continues to resonate more than a century later.

This portrait was created while a recording of Woolf’s words of her sui***e note played through a speaker beneath the paper, allowing her voice to physically move the mineral pigments as the painting came to life. Her words became part of the artwork itself.

As someone navigating brain injury and chronic illness, I found myself returning to Woolf’s writing again and again. Her reflections on identity and perception felt deeply connected to the story this collection tells: that even when life disrupts the way we think, remember, or move through the world, there is still beauty, meaning, and selfhood beneath the noise.

RESONANCE [3/4 Sound Wave Collection]

How do you say goodbye to your former self whom you loved? Where does she live?

Created by transmitting sound vibrations through wet mineral pigments, Resonance reflects those lasting echoes. The sound physically moved the paint across the paper, creating soft waves of connection that ripple through the portrait, suggesting memory, healing, and the parts of ourselves that remain long after life changes us.
