“What we see probably the most of is orthopedic injuries, injuries to arms and legs; just basic lacerations and things like; some of the more things like drowning; injuries from trampolines and bikes that certainly can be a little more severe,” Dr. Whitney Minnock, the pediatric chief of emergency, said.

As families spend more time outdoors during the summer, there may also be more opportunities for kids to be injured.

Thousands of nurses at Corewell Health have earned national board certification in their specialty of choice to become certified nurses.

Jordan Dill, emergency department nurse at Corewell Health Ge**er Hospital, became a Certified Emergency Nurse in 2024. Before pursuing certification, Jordan worked as an emergency nurse for almost a decade.

"During the time I was studying, I was astonished about how much I learned and was able to incorporate into my practice," said Jordan. "I’m thankful for the opportunity because it helped me grow as a nurse and feel confident in the care that I provide for our community."

We're thankful for certified nurses, like Jordan, who use their certification to share evidence-based practices and help improve patient outcomes.
