Pneumatic compression pumps can be a useful tool for moving stagnant lymph, but they are not a replacement for other modalities. To get the best results, a pump should complement (not completely replace) Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Always ensure you clear your lymphatic channels first, proximal to distal, before starting the pneumatic compression treatment. This means you use your hands to create a pumping motion in the six areas where the main clusters of lymph nodes are located: collar bone, neck, armpits, stomach, groin, and behind the knee. This essentially clears out the lymph nodes and allows them to receive more fluid during the drainage process.
