For Fire Prevention Week, team members from our Leon S. Peters Burn Center spent the last couple days in the lobby educating visitors and fellow team members how to charge lithium-ion batteries safely and recycle them properly.

A special thank you to our friends at the Fresno Fire Department for joining us to talk about the growing number of fires they respond to that start with these batteries and the Environmental Compliance Center with the County of Fresno where lithium-ion batteries can be recycled. 🔋

We were proud to celebrate the inaugural doula training cohort at this year's Doula Matriculation Ceremony.

Sarah Putman, Director of Women & Newborn Services, welcomed trainees and shared our excitement for the partnership with Fresno County Doula Workforce Expansion and the Department of Public Health.

Later this fall, trainees will join us at Community Regional for birth observations as part of their certification journey.🩷 🩵

We're excited to help support the next generation of doulas and strengthen maternal health resources throughout our community.

On February 17, 2014, Andrea's daughter was born at 23 weeks, 6 days and weighing just 800 grams. As a NICU nurse herself, Andrea knew exactly what was ahead. But in that moment, she had to set that aside and simply be a mother.

She wanted to transfer her baby to the NICU where she worked, the one she knew best. Our team was honest with her: moving her baby now carried more risk than staying at our Level III NICU. She trusted them, and stayed.

The care and trust her family received never left her. She knew this was where she wanted to be. So she came back, this time as a nurse.

Over 10 years later, Andrea is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at our hospital and in the same NICU that saved her daughter's life, caring for babies the same way her daughter once was. Her daughter still visits the unit today and for her 12th birthday, she started "Ava's Little Book Nook," donating books to NICU families so they can see what their life can be like.

We're so proud to have Andrea on our team. 🫶🩺

Like a lot of kids in the Central Valley, 6-year-old Toddie loves being outside and on the move. This summer, a ride on the back of a friend’s e-bike took an unexpected turn when his foot slipped and got caught in the tire, leaving him with a serious burn down to the bone.

Toddie was brought our Leon S. Peters Burn Center for specialized care, where Dr. Nicole Kopari and her team cared for him through weeks of treatment and healing. His family leaned on the team every step of the way, grateful for the support along the journey.

Today, Toddie is back to being himself — full of energy, starting first grade and back to playing outside. His family hopes his story encourages other parents to think about safety when it comes to e-bikes and e-scooters.

We’re proud to have been part of Toddie’s recovery. 💙

ZERO central-line bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) in our NICU for a full year. 🎉

Here at Community Regional Medical Center, our NICU team refused to settle for the status quo. Instead, they studied their own data, tailored protocols to the babies they care for and executed with remarkable consistency — achieving 12 straight months without a single CLABSI.

That’s an extraordinary accomplishment, especially for a Level III NICU caring for more than 850 babies each year, making them one of the busiest NICUs in California.

This milestone reflects the discipline, teamwork and relentless commitment our team has to deliver the highest level of care to our patients. Congratulations to the entire NICU team, especially Dr. Anand Rajani and Clinical Nurse Specialist, Diana Cormier, whose research and leadership made this possible.

Meet the Kopari’s 👋

Dr. Nicole Kopari is the medical director and a burn surgeon at our Leon S. Peters Burn Center. Every day, she cares for patients facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Her mom, Joyce, found her own way to help. From her home in Minnesota, Joyce hand-sews scrub caps and stuffed animals and ships them to her daughter for patients at the burn center, and throughout the hospital.

Two generations, one shared purpose: making sure every patient feels a little more comforted, and a little less alone.

From Minnesota to Fresno — stitched with love. 🧵❤️

Big news! Our Critical Care team recently earned the Gold Level ELSO Award for Excellence in Life Support — a national honor placing them among the best ECMO programs in the world! 🎉

This recognition reflects the skill and dedication our team brings to patients like Khushmeen, who a few years ago was fighting for her life on ECMO. Today, we’re proud to share that she’s back to living her best life and enjoying the things she loves to do.

Congratulations to our incredible Critical Care team. Stories like Khushmeen’s are why this work matters. 🫶
