One of our clinicians took their 20-month-old to Rock the Spectrum in Clovis 🤍

Here are some simple language models they used while playing that you can try with your own child next time you visit:

• “Go!” / “Ready, set… go!”
• “Up, up, up!” / “Down!”
• “Push” / “Pull”
• “My turn” / “Your turn”
• “Help me”
• “Open” / “Close”
• “More!” / “All done”
• “Again!”
• “let’s ___” (play, swing, slide, etc.)
• “We did it!”

Remember—keep it simple, repeat often, and follow your child’s lead. These little moments of play are where language grows 💬✨

This DIY wind tunnel was created using simple office supplies: laminating sheets (run through a laminator for sturdiness), tape, popsicle sticks, and staples. Just add a fan and a few light objects, and you have a fun, engaging therapy activity.

We love how versatile this activity is and how it can be adapted to work on a variety of different goals. In this video, the client is working on reducing the phonological process of stopping and generalizing this skill into spontaneous, conversational speech. Some of the targeted words included awesome, fly, and scarf, but this activity can easily be adapted to target any word or goal.

Our 4th of July must-haves for sensory regulation 🇺🇸✨

Sunglasses, headphones, sensory toys, and comfort items can make a big difference in helping your child feel safe and supported.

We’re sharing some helpful gestalts that can be modeled and used for protesting, shared enjoyment, and commenting:
“WOW it’s ___ (big, loud, amazing, awesome, pretty,great)”
“I like it”
“This is ___ (scary, fun, too much)”
“Look at that”
“It’s too ___ (loud, bright)”
“I don’t like it”
“Let’s go somewhere quiet”

Remember to honor your child’s feelings about the celebration and model language that reflects their experience. They are learning how to express when something feels overwhelming, and your support helps them build that voice. 🤍

Here’s how you can switch therapy approaches using the SAME toy ✨

It’s not about the toy, it’s about the approach 👇

🗣 AAC: model core and fringe words like open, go, more, stop, colors and build functional communication.

🐱 Artic/Phono: target your sound by using items in play or choose a routine word (like key for fronting), adding visual, verbal, and gestural cues for support.

🧩 Gestalt Language Processing (Stage 1): model a variety of communication functions
(“Let’s do it!” “we did it!” “This is hard!” “This is cool!”)

🧸 Early Intervention: keep it simple—core words, repetition, gestures, and lots of engagement!

Same toy, completely different purpose 💡

This bug hunt activity is perfect for indoor play when it’s just too hot outside 🐞🔦

All you need are some printed bugs and jars, glue, and a flashlight! For many kids, simply turning off the lights and adding a flashlight makes the whole experience feel extra fun and exciting.

This activity is a great way to support:
• labeling
• shared enjoyment
• protestation
• commenting
• spatial concepts (in, on, under, next to)

Simple, engaging, and full of opportunities for connection and language 💛
