Happy World Bicycle Day! Even if it wasn't the day to celebrate it, cycling is a great way to get some exercise. There is strong evidence that cycling is associated with lower mortality rates, and cycling as a mode of transportation can help reduce pollution. Eye colors vary widely in how common they are. Brown eyes are the most common, with over 50% of the world's population having them. The least common typical eye color is green at around 2% of the world's population. There are other less common eye colors, like heterochromia and pink eye associated with albinism, but they are extremely rare. To learn more, see below:

Did you ever wonder why your eye drop bottles have different colored caps? Eye drops are separated into different categories depending on their purpose. The caps are color coded depending on what category they belong to. This is to make it easier for you, and your eye doctor, to figure what drops you are using, without having to think of a specific, difficult to remember name (although we appreciate you knowing the name!). To simplify, just remember: Tan indicates antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals; Pink indicates anti- inflammatories or steroids; Gray indicates non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS); Red indicates dilating drops; Green, Yellow, Blue, Purple, Orange and Turquoise all indicate different types of Glaucoma drops.

From the occasional eyelash that wanders uninvited into the eye to the high-speed missile impact from an ejected metal shard, one may find oneself with something in the eye (medically referred to as a foreign body). Depending on what it is and how the injury happened, the foreign body may pierce the eye and cause serious injury or it may simply go away with no long-term problem.
Most people realize that an eyelash in the eye does not require an evaluation by a doctor but that a metal shard in the eye would warrant a visit to your ophthalmologist, particularly if it has penetrated beyond the superficial layers of the surface of the eye.
Many eye injuries can be prevented. Something in the eye (a foreign body) is most often the result of improper or no eye protection while working in an environment that exposes one to flying debris. Always wear protective eyewear when doing tasks that could result in an eye injury!
