August 30 is National Grief Awareness Day, a moment to honor the love that lives on inside the loss.

Grief does not follow a timeline. It shows up in waves, in birthdays, in songs on the radio, in the small ordinary moments where someone should be. If you are carrying grief today, know that what you feel is a reflection of what you loved.

You do not have to walk this road alone. Support looks like many things: a friend who listens without trying to fix, a community that remembers with you, a therapist who can hold space when the weight feels too heavy.

We are here when you are ready.

Do you notice your child getting quieter as the first day of school approaches? Back-to-school anxiety often shows up in the body before it shows up in words. A stomachache the morning of orientation. Clinging at the classroom door. Tossing and turning the night before.

These are signals, not misbehavior. Your child is telling you something feels big, and they need help carrying it.

The good news? You do not have to figure it out alone. Sometimes a little support goes a long way, whether that looks like extra connection at home or a trusted therapist in your corner.

If your family could use a hand this season, we are here.

July 24 is International Self-Care Day, a reminder that taking care of ourselves is not a luxury or an afterthought. It is the foundation of every healthy relationship we have.

When our emotional tank is empty, we have less to give the people we love. When we are rested and grounded, we can show up with patience, presence, and warmth. Self-care does not have to be elaborate. It can be a quiet morning. A walk outside. A boundary held with kindness. A conversation with someone who truly sees you.

What does self-care look like for you this season? We would love to hear in the comments.

Happy 4th of July from all of us at Olive Leaf Family Therapy.

Today we celebrate freedom, and we are also reminded of the freedom that comes from healthy connection. The freedom to be yourself in your relationships. The freedom to feel safe in your home. The freedom to grow alongside the people you love.

However you spend the day, whether gathered with family, resting in quiet, or somewhere in between, we hope it brings you peace and a sense of belonging.

Wishing you a safe and joyful holiday from our Olive Leaf family to yours.

Summer looks like ease from the outside. Longer days, slower mornings, vacations on the calendar. But for many of us, the shift in routine, the heat, the family togetherness, and the pressure to "make the most of it" can quietly raise our stress.

If summer feels heavier than it looks, you are not alone. Mental health doesn't pause for sunshine.

A few gentle ways to care for yourself this season: protect your sleep, keep one steady daily anchor (a walk, journaling, a quiet cup of coffee), say no to plans that drain you, and reach out when the heaviness lingers. At Olive Leaf, we're here whenever you're ready.

What's one small thing that keeps you grounded in summer?

Becoming a mother stretches you in ways no one fully prepares you for. The love is real. So is the exhaustion, the worry, and sometimes a heaviness that feels harder to name.

If you've noticed sadness that lingers, anxiety that won't quiet, or a sense of disconnection from your baby or yourself, you are not failing. You are carrying something real, and you don't have to carry it alone.

At Olive Leaf, we walk with new and expecting moms through the tender, complicated season of perinatal mental health. With the right support, healing and connection are absolutely possible.

What helped you most in early motherhood? Share below to encourage another mom who might need it today.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the service members who gave their lives in service to this country. We also hold space for the families, friends, and communities who continue to carry their memory.

Grief does not follow a calendar. For many military families, days like this one bring waves of remembrance that can feel both sacred and heavy. If today stirs something in you, you are not grieving wrong. There is no timeline for loss, and the ache of missing someone is a reflection of how deeply they were loved.

If you or someone you love is navigating grief, whether it is fresh or decades old, please know that support is available. Healing does not mean forgetting. It means learning to carry love and loss together.

We are grateful, and we are here.

Have you ever finished scrolling and felt smaller than when you started? You are not alone, and you are not weak for feeling it.

Comparison is one of the most common stressors we hear about in our therapy rooms. The curated highlight reels of other people's marriages, parenting, careers, and even healing journeys can leave us feeling like we are falling behind in a race we never signed up for.

Here is something worth remembering: your story is unfolding on its own timeline. The relationships you are repairing, the boundaries you are learning, the small wins no one sees, those count. Growth that is rooted lasts longer than growth that is performed.

The next time comparison creeps in, try this: close the app, take a slow breath, and name one thing that is true and good about your own life right now. It is a small practice with a big return.

What helps you step out of the comparison trap?

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to say something out loud: you are not broken. You are not too much. You are not "behind" everyone else who seems to have it together.

Therapy is not about fixing people. It is about helping you uncover what is already inside you, the resilience, the wisdom, the capacity to heal. Like the olive tree that grows stronger through pressing seasons, you carry more than you know.

If you have been considering reaching out, this is your reminder that asking for support is one of the most courageous things a person can do. We are here when you are ready.

Do you and your partner keep circling back to the same fight? Maybe it's about the dishes, the schedule, or how to handle the kids. But somehow it never really gets resolved.

That's because most repeating arguments aren't actually about the thing on the surface. Underneath, there's usually a deeper need that isn't being heard. Something like, "Do you see me? Am I important to you? Can I count on you?"

Emotionally Focused Therapy helps couples slow down and find what's really happening beneath those patterns. Instead of trying to "win" the argument, you learn to hear each other in a completely different way.

When you focus on the relationship instead of the behavior, something powerful shifts. The cycle doesn't have to keep repeating.

If you and your partner are ready to break out of that loop, our couples therapists in Fresno and Long Beach are here to help
