Hi everyone!! My name is Amber Andrade, and Yore Roots is deeply personal to me. I don’t just care about rural history from a distance. I live, work, and have deep personal roots in a rural community right here in Fresno County. I’ve seen firsthand how quickly pieces of our local history can disappear.
The old photographs collecting dust in boxes. Family documents tucked away in storage. Stories that only exist in the memories of our grandparents and elders. The history of our farms, small towns, schools, families, and communities is all around us, but so much of it is fragile. If we don’t preserve it now, some of it may be gone before anyone realizes what was lost.
That’s why I officially incorporated Yore Roots as a California nonprofit corporation.
Our goal is to help rural and under-resourced communities across Fresno County preserve, digitize, and share their history through grassroots projects like mobile scanning days and oral history workshops.
And right now, we’re starting completely from the ground up.
With $0.
Before we can begin holding free community preservation events and pursue larger preservation grants, we need to take care of our initial state and federal filing costs.
We’re working to raise $350 for our immediate startup expenses:
• $275 — IRS Form 1023-EZ application fee
• $25 — California Registry of Charitable Trusts
• $20 — California Statement of Information
• $30 — Initial nonprofit banking setup
