I Thought Leg Pain Was Just Part of My Job…
My name is Luiza, and I’ve been working in a hospital for over 12 years.
Every day, I'm on my feet for hours—moving from one patient to another, working long shifts, constantly walking, and doing everything I can to care for others.
I truly love my job.
But over time, my legs began to give out.
Every evening they felt heavy, swollen, and painful. Nighttime leg cramps became more frequent, and after every shift, it felt like I was carrying weights attached to my legs.
I kept telling myself,
"It's normal. I spend all day on my feet."
Then one day, a coworker said something that changed everything:
"It doesn't have to be normal. Have your veins checked."
I scheduled an appointment at Heart Artery & Vein Center.
After a venous ultrasound and a thorough evaluation, I learned that I had chronic venous insufficiency. The condition had been developing for years, and I had mistaken it for simple fatigue.
I decided to begin treatment.
Just a few weeks later, I noticed an incredible difference.
✅ My legs were no longer swollen.
✅ The pain had almost completely disappeared.
✅ The heavy feeling was gone.
✅ I had more energy after work.
✅ I could enjoy evening walks and spend quality time with my family again.
Today, I know one thing for sure...
Leg pain is not always "just part of the job."
If you spend long hours standing—whether you work in a hospital, a retail store, a restaurant, a beauty salon, a warehouse, or a manufacturing facility—don't ignore the signals your body is sending you.
Painful, heavy, or swollen legs may be signs of vein disease, and the good news is that it can often be treated successfully.
