I Thought It Was Just from Sitting Too Much...

I've worked in an office for more than 15 years.

Every day, I spend 8 to 10 hours at my desk—answering emails, attending meetings, taking calls, and working on the computer. Before I know it, hours have passed without getting up from my chair.

One day, I noticed a pain in my calf.

At first, it was mild. Then my leg began to feel tight, heavy, and slightly swollen.

I told myself,

"I probably just sat in the wrong position."

A few days later, the pain was still there.

A coworker said something I'll never forget:

"Don't ignore it. Vein problems can become very serious."

I decided to schedule an appointment at Heart Artery & Vein Center.

After a vascular ultrasound and a comprehensive circulation evaluation, the doctor discovered that a blood clot was beginning to form in my leg. I was at risk of developing Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

Because I came in early and didn't ignore the warning signs, treatment started immediately—helping me avoid a potentially life-threatening complication such as a pulmonary embolism.

That moment changed the way I think about my health.

If you spend long hours sitting at work, pay attention to what your body is telling you.

Don't ignore symptoms such as:
• Pain in your calf
• Swelling in one leg
• A feeling of heaviness
• Warmth or redness in the leg
• Pain that worsens while walking

Early diagnosis can make all the difference. A simple evaluation today could help prevent a serious medical emergency tomorrow.

I Thought Leg Pain Was Just Part of My Job…

My name is Luiza, and I’ve been working in a hospital for over 12 years.

Every day, I'm on my feet for hours—moving from one patient to another, working long shifts, constantly walking, and doing everything I can to care for others.

I truly love my job.

But over time, my legs began to give out.

Every evening they felt heavy, swollen, and painful. Nighttime leg cramps became more frequent, and after every shift, it felt like I was carrying weights attached to my legs.

I kept telling myself,

"It's normal. I spend all day on my feet."

Then one day, a coworker said something that changed everything:

"It doesn't have to be normal. Have your veins checked."

I scheduled an appointment at Heart Artery & Vein Center.

After a venous ultrasound and a thorough evaluation, I learned that I had chronic venous insufficiency. The condition had been developing for years, and I had mistaken it for simple fatigue.

I decided to begin treatment.

Just a few weeks later, I noticed an incredible difference.

✅ My legs were no longer swollen.
✅ The pain had almost completely disappeared.
✅ The heavy feeling was gone.
✅ I had more energy after work.
✅ I could enjoy evening walks and spend quality time with my family again.

Today, I know one thing for sure...

Leg pain is not always "just part of the job."

If you spend long hours standing—whether you work in a hospital, a retail store, a restaurant, a beauty salon, a warehouse, or a manufacturing facility—don't ignore the signals your body is sending you.

Painful, heavy, or swollen legs may be signs of vein disease, and the good news is that it can often be treated successfully.
