Hello neighbors,
Summer on San Juan Island turns all of us into athletes, whether we call ourselves that or not. Kayaking out to the west side, the climb up Mount Grant, cycling the island loop, and for a lot of us, the quiet marathon of the garden. By Monday, our bodies are telling us all about it.
This is where I get to use my science for something purely practical. Alternating heat and cold — my infrared sauna and cold plunge — creates a “pumping” effect in your blood vessels that mirrors what exercise itself does: it moves blood, clears inflammation, and speeds the body’s repair process. Follow it with red light therapy, and you’re giving your muscles and joints an assist at the cellular level, not just a feel-good soak.
You don’t need to be training for a race to benefit. I see hikers, gardeners, weekend sailors, pickleballers, and folks who just want to keep up with their grandkids. The goal is simple: less soreness with increased mobility, quicker recovery, more good days outside doing what you love on this island.
If your body’s been asking for a break this fall, let’s talk about what a session could do for you. Find everything at inergywellness.com, or call or email me directly.
Warmly, R.P.
