Janie Lois (Black) Adams
March 20, 1934-May 24, 2026
Janie Adams was born on March 20, 1934, in Loxley, Alabama. One of eight children, she grew up under the loving leadership of her father, D.R. Black and mother, Nobie Morgan Black. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school. Once she graduated, she moved to Houston and worked for the phone company as an operator. She met and subsequently married William L. ‘Bill’ Adams on February 27, 1955. Their first child, Steven Brian Adams, was born in December of 1956, with Darren Clark Adams following in September of 1963. William ‘Bill Adams’ was a flight engineer in the U.S. Airforce and was often gone, leaving Janie to raise Steven and Darren and maintain their household. She proved more than able to meet the demands of, essentially, single motherhood for quite some time, building personal resilience and strength through this period in her life. Her faith in God kept her on a steady path and provided opportunities to have many wonderful friendships – especially at SE Church of Christ where she was a beloved, faithful member for many years. She especially enjoyed the small groups of which she was an active member – the 39’rs & Heartfelt Friends.

Janie enjoyed life to the fullest – from going to church, to dressing to the nines, to being the hostess for many family gatherings. She was very close to her sisters, Myrna, Ronnie, Margaret, Marie & Nell and was so very proud to call Freddie Black and Rudy Black her brothers. She was the proud grandmother of Ethan and Joseph and was thrilled to have that title.

She will be remembered as a lover of life, a fashion queen with impeccable taste, a loving mother and grandmother. She will be in our hearts forever.

Friends and family are cordially invited to the Funeral Service on Saturday, June 6, 2026, with Visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM and the Funeral beginning at 11:00 AM at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 North Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, TX 77546.

Arlene (Weyer) Taylor
March 9, 1935-May 24, 2026
Arlene Weyer Taylor was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, March 9, 1935, to Henry and Lois Weyer. She met her husband, Truman Taylor, while attending Baylor University. They were married in 1955.
After years in South Houston, Truman and Arlene, along with their children, Teri and Larry, moved to Friendswood in 1967. They discovered Friendswood through their membership in a flying club that flew out of, then, Clover Field Airport. Truman and Arlene were both pilots.
Arlene and Truman became active members of First Baptist Church in Friendswood in 1969. Arlene taught a Sunday School class for over 50 years, moving from youth to adults. Her last women’s class was very popular, attended by all ages. At the same time, Arlene sent birthday cards to virtually the entire membership of the church and participated in a letter writing ministry to prison inmates.
Arlene was active in Truman Taylor Insurance, a family-owned business begun in 1962. Both Teri and Larry worked alongside their parents, with Larry taking over when Truman retired.
Arlene and Truman were world travelers, but perhaps their most enjoyable journeys were with their motorcycle “gang,” the Buzzard Bunch. Yes, Arlene was a biker chick!
The group, composed of church members, rode all over the country looking for adventures and especially restaurants, with their stated objective: Search and Devour!
Arlene was well known for her cooking and hospitality. The couple opened their home to numerous families and individuals as needs arose.
After Truman’s passing in 2005, Arlene downsized and moved to League City. However, her involvement with her Friendswood church and friends never flagged.
In fact, even after moving into assisted living, she remained consistently engaged spiritually and socially, attending church as well as a weekly ladies’ luncheon and Friendswood Prayer Breakfast.
Arlene is survived by her brother, Fred Weyer and his wife, Dolores; daughter, Teri Wells and her husband, Raymond; son, Larry Taylor and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Trudy Smith and husband, Andy; Carly Abel and husband, Carter; Jake Taylor and wife, Katie; and Wisteria Warren and husband, Joel; great grandchildren, Lila, Micah and Asher Abel, Chase and Graham Taylor and Noah and Hazel Warren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Arlene’s post-operative struggle ended, Sunday, May 24, as she moved to her heavenly home, reunited with husband, sister, parents and friends.
Friends and Family are cordially invited to the Funeral Service on Saturday, May 30, 2026, with visitation from 9:00-10:00 AM and the Funeral beginning at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church- Friendswood, 209 S Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, TX 77546. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St. Houston, TX 77023.
