Core strength for dancers isn't about abs. It's about the deep system.

The transversus abdominis, multifidus, pelvic floor, and diaphragm work together as a pressure management system that stabilizes the spine before every movement begins. In dancers, this deep core system is often inhibited — not because dancers are weak, but because the global muscles have learned to compensate. Rebuilding that deep stability changes everything: cleaner lines, more control, less lower back pain, and a stronger foundation for every technical demand.

Drop a comment if you've ever been told to "engage your core" without anyone explaining what that actually means.

The first question we ask isn't "where does it hurt?" 🎯

It's "what are you working toward?" Because your hip impingement means something different if you have a competition in three weeks than if it's the off-season. Your ankle sprain carries different stakes before auditions than after. At Bravo, your performance schedule is part of your clinical picture — from the very first visit.

That's not just good care. That's dance-literate care.

Share this with a dance parent who's been frustrated by providers who don't understand their dancer's world.

Most ankle sprains in dancers are grade I or II — but they're not all the same. 🔬

The mechanism matters. A rolling inward during a jump landing stresses different structures than a forced sickling position in a turn. A sprain during pointe work carries different implications than one in flat shoes. What happened, how it happened, and what your ankle is being asked to do next all factor into how we treat it.

This is why dance-literate PT changes the outcome.

Seven days a week. Because dancers don't get hurt on a Monday-to-Friday schedule. 💡

Bravo Physio's Frisco location is open seven days a week — because we understand what it means to have a dancer who trains on weekends, competes on Saturdays, and needs to be seen before the next rehearsal, not after the next available weekday slot. Accessible care is part of unparalleled care.

Your schedule shouldn't have to work around your PT. It should be the other way around.

Tag a dance parent who's had to miss school or work just to fit in a PT appointment.

Landing mechanics are one of the most preventable sources of knee and ankle injury in dancers. 🔬

A well-conditioned dancer lands through the full foot — toes, ball, heel — with the knee tracking over the second toe and the hip absorbing load through controlled eccentric strength. When landing mechanics break down under fatigue, the knee collapses inward, the ankle rolls, and the impact transfers directly to the joint structures. Teaching and training proper landing patterns before they break down under pressure is foundational injury prevention work.

Dr. Travis Morrison didn’t just study dance medicine — he danced professionally. 🩰

Before becoming a physical therapist, Travis performed with Colorado Ballet and City Ballet San Diego. He knows firsthand what it takes to keep a performer’s body healthy under the demands of a professional career — and he knows what it feels like when injury threatens to take that away.

Now, as a fellowship-trained manual therapist (FAAOMPT) at Bravo Physio & Wellness, he brings that experience directly into his clinical work. Whether you’re managing an injury, working to prevent one, or trying to stay strong through a demanding season, Travis meets you with the kind of understanding that only comes from having been on stage himself.

As a parent, you invest countless hours supporting your daughter’s passion for dance. From classes and rehearsals to competitions and auditions, you want her to feel confident and prepared.

The reality is that many dancers enter Belles season with incredible technique—but without the physical foundation needed to handle the demands of the prep for auditions. That’s when we begin to see shin splints, hamstring strains, hip flexor tendinitis, fatigue, and other overuse injuries.

The Bravo Belles Prep Program was created by Doctors of Physical Therapy specializing in dance medicine to help dancers build the strength, flexibility, endurance, and resilience to support a successful season.

✔ Self-paced virtual curriculum
✔ Dance-specific performance training
✔ Injury risk reduction strategies
✔ Optional private one-on-one sessions for individualized support

Because preparing for Belles is about more than learning choreography—it’s about preparing the body that performs it.

Your daughter’s season starts soon. Let’s make sure she’s ready.
✨ The program begins August 10th
