Excited to share the latest issue of 𝙉𝙚𝙪𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙁𝙤𝙘𝙪𝙨 on Endoscopic Spine Surgery, where I had the privilege of serving as a Topic Editor! ✨

Endoscopic techniques are revolutionizing spine care — offering surgical precision and rapid recovery. This edition brings together cutting-edge research proving how these techniques continue to push boundaries and elevate patient outcomes:

🔹 Motion Preservation: Demonstrating how endoscopic decompression can reduce the need for fusion in grade 1 spondylolisthesis.

🔹 Tissue Preservation: Objective biomarker and registry data confirming significantly reduced muscle damage and accelerated mobility recovery compared to open approaches.

🔹 Economic Value: Strong evidence showing the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of full-endoscopic and biportal decompression for modern healthcare systems.

🔹 Tackling Complex Pathology: Expanding horizons to successfully treat challenging cases — including thoracic disc herniations and spinal metastases — with minimal invasiveness.

🔹 Pristine Visualization: Practical protocols (like TXA and epinephrine-containing irrigation) that give surgeons unmatched clarity and control in the OR.

I enjoyed serving as faculty for the inaugural Latin American Endoscopic Spine Course at Arthrex headquarters in Naples, FL.

We hosted a group of talented Brazilian spine surgeons for a deep-dive into endoscopic techniques and next-generation spine technology. Training surgeons from across the globe is always a privilege — it’s inspiring to see how a shared passion for ultra-minimally invasive care transcends borders.

I left Naples with great memories, new friends and an even stronger commitment to advancing patient care worldwide. 🌎 🌍 🌏

If sports surgeons, ENTs, gynecologists, and urologists rely on scopes every single day... why not spine surgeons?

I broke down why endoscopic spine surgery is on the verge of widespread adoption in my lecture at the 2026 Spine Evolutions meeting (the largest endoscopic spine conference in the Western Hemisphere). Among other factors, patient demand for faster, less painful recoveries will drive a massive shift — and endoscopy is set to become the standard of care for many spinal issues.

From severe sciatica and foot drop to hiking through national parks — swipe to see Paul’s amazing recovery! 🏔️✨

When Paul came to see me, a disc herniation in his low back was threatening his active lifestyle. Non-surgical care didn’t bring relief so I performed an ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic discectomy to remove the herniated disc fragment and decompress his nerves.

Fast forward a few months, and Paul is living life at full throttle again:

🏰 𝟮 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗢𝗽: Having a blast at Medieval Times

✈️ 𝟭 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗢𝗽: Comfortably walking miles on a family trip to Disney World

🚤 𝟴 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗢𝗽: Boating in Panama City

🥾 𝟰 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗢𝗽: Hiking national parks on a 6-week RV road trip

🏍️ 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱: Returning to stunt-riding motorcycles and competitive paintballing!

Seeing patients reclaim their strength and passion is why I do what I do. Here’s to living life without limits, Paul! 💙

✈️ Quick day trip to Las Vegas for the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Annual Meeting! Here are some highlights from a whirlwind agenda:

1. Presented my decision-making algorithm for the utilization of endoscopic posterior cervical foraminotomy
2. Participated in the SMISS Endoscopy Committee meeting
3. Connected with other surgeon and industry leaders
4. Sat in on some great academic sessions

I’m proud that our research team had a strong presence at the meeting, contributing original studies on approach selection for endoscopic lumbar discectomy, ultra-early outcomes of endoscopic posterior foraminotomy, improvements in sleep quality after surgery for cervical radiculopathy, and more.

We’re pushing ultra-minimally invasive spine surgery forward for better patient care everywhere — and having a blast along the way! 🤓

2 weeks. 3 cities (Naples, Kansas City, Dallas). And a slew of surgeons introduced to endoscopic spine techniques.

Balancing a surgical practice with traveling and teaching isn’t for everyone, but the impact makes every second worthwhile to me. Patient demand for endoscopic spine surgery is immense, yet true specialists remain rare. I’ve made this field my life’s work… not just to deliver optimal outcomes in my own OR, but to help elevate the standard of care everywhere.

Endoscopic spine care, but I ran it through a wellness influencer translator! 😂✨

Turns out endoscopic spine surgery has involved photon aura scans, energy mapping, wand illumination, micro-portal disc clearing and gentle nerve channel expansion this ENTIRE time.

We just call them X-rays, MRI scans, endoscopes, discectomies and decompressions.

How do you like the new branding? 🤣

What does a Kansas radiologist do when he suffers a herniated disc? He flies to Dallas for endoscopic spine surgery!

When Dr. Hinson developed severe leg pain and weakness from an L4-5 disc extrusion, he understood the imaging and treatment options better than most. Physicians “in the know” recognize the distinct advantages of endoscopic spine surgery, which is why Dr. Hinson chose to travel out-of-state for an endoscopic far-lateral discectomy.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲:

1️⃣ 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮-𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲: Performed through a dime-sized incision using a narrow camera and micro-insturments to relieve nerve compression while preserving the surrounding muscles, ligaments and bone.

2️⃣ 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆: Most patients experience immediate, dramatic relief from sciatica — often erasing months or even years of suffering with an hour-long procedure. Many take only Tylenol or no pain medication at all afterward.

3️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹: Out-of-state patients can fly into Dallas the night before surgery and fly home the morning after.

4️⃣ 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴: Patients quickly return to the high-demand activities they love.

Now over a year post-op, Dr. Hinson sent over these photos from a recent action-packed trip to Alaska with his sons. Reeling in sockeye salmon without pain or weakness slowing him down is what recovery is all about.
