For the back-to-school season, we asked some of our patients with limb differences to share what they want other kids to know about them. Our Psychology team reminds us that it's OK for peers to have questions, and that it's important to show curiosity, not cruelty. 💙

Before Skye Blakely was an elite gymnast, she was a little girl with big dreams. 🌟

As our athlete ambassador, she shares what she would tell her younger self, reflects on memorable moments that keep her motivated and shows the importance of gratitude while achieving her goals.

She’s the perfect example of the great things that can happen when you don't give up. Skye, your resilience is inspiring! 💙

🎶 Meet our volunteer, Gracie! She dazzles our patients with songs in our clinics every week. Volunteering through KidLinks, she brings smiles to children while they wait for their appointments. We're so glad to have her time and talent at Scottish Rite. Thank you, Gracie! ❤️

Meet Rhett! 🩵 This adorable little boy was diagnosed with spina bifida and clubfoot, but he's not letting anything hold him back. As a baby, Rhett has undergone several surgeries and treatments for his spina bifida, and now he's receiving weekly casts to treat his clubfoot. Weekly casting is helping gently correct the position of his foot, and then he will have surgery to keep his foot corrected. Even though his journey isn't over yet, we're so proud of how far he has come! Way to go, Rhett! 🙌

Here's a little positivity for your Monday! 🍿

Our patient Bradley took a challenge and turned it into a celebration. At just 3 weeks old, Bradley was diagnosed with proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD). PFFD is a rare congenital limb difference of the femur, or thigh bone. Shortly after his first birthday, he had his amputation surgery.

Now, Bradley is running around using his custom prosthesis!

On the first anniversary of his surgery, Bradley and his family donated popcorn to everyone at the Dallas campus for the whole day! His story is a great reminder of how good things can come out of hard times.

Bradley, we can't wait to watch you soar! ✈️

📸 Lights, camera, action! A little behind-the-scenes fun with Super and Falco. Our facility dogs had a blast during their very own photoshoot. From holiday costumes to silly poses, we loved seeing their personalities shine! ✨

📣 Meet Liberty, our scoliosis warrior and cheerleading champion! In 2022, Liberty’s pediatrician noticed that her spine was showing a curve, so she was referred to Scottish Rite. 🩻 After being diagnosed with scoliosis, she quickly began bracing, wearing her brace for 18 - 20 hours a day – all while juggling a budding dancing career, volleyball, basketball and cheerleading. 💪 Because of her determination, Liberty became a peer supporter to help other patients facing scoliosis.

By January 2026, 13-year-old Liberty’s curve had progressed, leading to the difficult decision to have spinal fusion surgery with Dr. Megan Johnson. Her surgery was a major success, with 19 screws and two rods. Despite her recent surgery, she has continued to thrive in cheer, even winning the All-District Cheerleader award for her school district! 🏆

We’re so proud of you, Liberty! We can't wait to watch you continue pursuing your dreams! 🌟

Happy first day of school! We hope all of our students, parents and teachers have the best year! ✏️

Like many of our patients, Heba started school today! Although the start of the school year looks a little bit different, her dedication to her education remains. Scottish Rite provides an on-site inpatient school program with a certified teacher to help hospitalized children and teenagers with extended stays keep their education on track.

When we asked Heba, "What do you love?" she replied, "I love seeing children who are happy and healthy!" At 13 years old, she already has plans for her future career. Heba wants to be a lawyer when she grows up! We'll be cheering her on every step of the way.

As summer comes to an end, we're wishing everyone a happy and healthy back-to-school season! 🍎

Meet Keaton, our wheelchair basketball superstar! 🏀

At just 14 years old, Keaton has already overcome more than most of us can imagine, and he's doing it with a smile.

Keaton was born with congenital scoliosis and other orthopedic conditions. His family found the care and support they needed at Scottish Rite with Dr. Lane Wimberly by their side.

Then, after an injury in 4th grade, Keaton's family faced an incredibly tough decision: amputation. Dr. Corey Gill walked alongside them with the kindness and compassion every family deserves.

Through it all, Keaton's family found something even bigger than great care. They built a real connection with our team, from the volunteers greeting them at the door to our clinical staff and providers. When they encouraged Keaton to try the Dallas Junior Wheelchair Mavs program, that's when his love for basketball took off! 🙌

Watching our patients grow, take on challenges and just get back to being kids is at the core of our mission. We are so incredibly proud of you, Keaton! 💙
