Prime Psychiatry Prime Psychiatry is a full-service psychiatric office providing holistic and individualized care using evidence-based principles. Telehealth available.

Serving locations all over North of Dallas. Prime Psychiatry offers psychiatric evaluations, medication management, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (for treatment of depression), telepsychiatry, addiction treatment, disability evaluations and individual/couples counseling for adults aged 18-65 years. Prime Psychiatry was founded by Dr Efosa Airuehia, who is quadruple board certified in General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. In keeping with the tenets of Lifestyle Medicine, we are proponents of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, such as good nutrition, exercise, stress management, to***co and alcohol cessation, good sleep hygiene, and other non-drug modalities to aid in the management of mental disorders. Prime Psychiatry believes in keeping ahead of the curve with respect to treatment modalities and technology. We offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, a non-drug FDA-approved treatment for depression. We also provide Telepsychiatry via eVisit, a service which provides HIPPA compliant videoconferencing, meaning patients can been seen on their computers, tablets or phones, without coming to our physical office location. We accept most major health insurance panels and are currently accepting new patients.

Feeling stuck on high alert daily and struggling to unwind? A pill that only mutes the body isn't a repair. The Nervous System Reset program addresses the underlying system that keeps sounding the alarm. Don't just quiet the alarm; fix the source.

Ever wondered why your heart pounds when you're scared? It's adrenaline, also known as epinephrine. This ancient survival system floods your body, triggering the fight-or-flight response. It makes your heart race, hands tremble, and mouth go dry—all before you even speak.

A 1982 study tested propranolol on musicians with stage fright. Those who took the drug (vs. a placebo) shook less, sweated less, and were scored higher by critics. While small, the effect shows how calming the body can quiet the mind.

A massive 2018 study compared 21 antidepressants using over 116,000 people. Two names consistently stood out for effectiveness and tolerability: Escitalopram (Lexapro) and Sertraline (Zoloft).

Bridget's story highlights a crucial difference. Propranolol eased her presentation jitters, but couldn't touch the unexplained chest tightness on a quiet Tuesday. Her anxiety ran deeper, needing a different approach.

Medication is a tool, not a personal failure. While propranolol can be a gift for anxiety that lives in the body, it's not for everyone. Learn about potential risks for asthma, heart conditions, and diabetes, and why it might not help anxiety that persists in quiet moments. Always discuss with your prescriber.

Ever taken a pill for presentation jitters or travel anxiety? Propranolol can calm your body, but what about the fear in your head? I'm a psychiatrist explaining what this medication can't reach and why that part is usually the real issue.

Doctors never told you this drug was originally for heart health, not anxiety. Discovered by a Scottish scientist, it was meant to protect hearts from stress. Calming nerves was an accidental benefit. Using it for anxiety is off-label, but the reason it works lies in a powerful feedback loop between your heart and brain.

10/18/2026

Your racing heart can feed your fear, creating a feedback loop. When your body signals distress, your brain triggers more alarms. Medications like propranolol can break this cycle by calming the physical response, giving your mind less to react to. This is how quieting the body's alarm bell can bring surprising mental relief.

Ever taken a pill before a big moment and felt calmer physically, but still scared mentally? Propranolol blocks adrenaline's physical effects, like shaking and heart pounding, but it doesn't touch the root of the fear. This heart medication, repurposed for anxiety, offers temporary relief but can't reach the core problem.

Last week, our teams held a Food Drive Spirit Week at our Frisco, Plano, Austin, and Southlake locations. Together, we collected pantry staples like pasta, fruits and veggies, protein items, and hygiene products to support our local community.
We’re so thankful for our team and patients who helped make a difference this holiday season. Giving back to our community is at the heart of what we do. 🧡
