November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month!

Alzheimer’s disease affects millions of individuals and families, impacting memory, thinking, and daily life. This month, we raise awareness, recognize those living with Alzheimer’s, and honor the families and caregivers who provide support, compassion, and care.

By increasing understanding and encouraging meaningful conversations, we can help reduce stigma and remind those affected that they are not alone.

Together, let’s build a more informed, compassionate, and supportive community. πŸ’œ

πŸ’™ WHY WORK HERE? Because the people make the difference!

Some of the best moments at work aren't about meetings, deadlines, or to-do lists. They're about the people beside you.

At our 2026 Company Retreat, we had the opportunity to reconnect, share some laughs, and celebrate the relationships that make our team special.

At Moms In Motion, we're united by a mission to make a difference for Virginia familiesβ€”and the people we work alongside help bring that mission to life.

✨ Great work starts with great people.

πŸ’™ Respite Care: Who May Qualify and Who May Not? πŸ’™

Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but caregivers need breaks too. Respite care provides temporary relief to unpaid caregivers who regularly support an individual with significant care needs.

βœ… Who May Qualify?

Respite may be available to individuals who:

β€’ Are enrolled in an eligible Medicaid waiver
β€’ Meet the waiver’s eligibility requirements
β€’ Have an assessed need for support
β€’ Have respite approved as part of their service plan
β€’ Have an unpaid caregiver who regularly provides care

🚫 Who May Not Qualify?

Respite may not be available when:

β€’ The individual is not enrolled in an eligible waiver
β€’ The individual does not meet the waiver requirements
β€’ Respite is not approved in the individual’s service plan
β€’ A legally responsible individual (LRI) is being paid to provide personal care or assistance
β€’ The paid caregiver is also listed as the unpaid caregiver
β€’ The individual needs skilled nursing that cannot be provided through regular respite services

πŸ’™ Why Is Respite Important?

β€’ Reduces caregiver stress
β€’ Gives caregivers time to rest
β€’ Helps individuals remain at home
β€’ Supports health and safety
β€’ Gives families more flexibility and control

Every family’s situation is different. Eligibility and approved respite hours depend on the individual’s waiver, assessed needs, and service plan.

If you’re wondering whether your loved one may qualify, contact your Services Facilitator, waiver case manager, or care coordinator to discuss your options.

πŸ’™ Caregivers deserve support, too!

She appreciates being part of a team where everyone can ask questions, share knowledge, and learn from one another. The flexibility of remote work and summer half-day Fridays also make it easier to balance work with family time.

We’re grateful to have Tynesha on our team and appreciate the positive energy and collaboration she brings to Moms In Motion! πŸ’™

For many families, Consumer Direction offers something important: choice and involvement in how care is arranged.

With Consumer Direction, the individual receiving servicesβ€”or their representativeβ€”can have a greater role in:
β€’ Choosing and hiring attendants who are a good fit
β€’ Training and directing attendants based on the person’s needs and Plan of Care
β€’ Managing schedules and coordinating care within program requirements
β€’ Having more flexibility and control over how authorized services are provided

But with that choice comes responsibility.

Consumer Direction means taking on employer responsibilities, such as recruiting attendants, approving time worked, following program requirements, and making sure services are provided according to the Plan of Care.

It’s not the right fit for every family, but for many, the ability to have a voice in who provides their care and how that care is arranged makes Consumer Direction a valuable option.

Choice comes with responsibilityβ€”and that’s part of what makes Consumer Direction different.
