Most parents think of a growth spurt as "suddenly buying bigger shoes." But what's actually happening inside your
child's body is a precise, hormone-driven biological process.

Here's the sequence:
1. The pituitary gland — a small gland at the base of the brain, releases growth hormone. Most of this release
happens during deep sleep, which is why quality rest is non-negotiable during childhood.
2. Growth hormone signals the liver to produce IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1). This protein is what actually tells
the body to grow.
3. IGF-1 reaches the growth plates — soft cartilage tissue at the ends of your child's long bones. New bone cells are
produced here, which is where height gain physically happens.
4. As puberty progresses, growth plates gradually harden and close. Once closed, no further height growth is possible.

This is why the window matters. And why knowing where your child is in that window, through a bone age assessment, is so valuable.

Did you know children actually grow faster in summer than any other time of year?

It's not a myth, researchers have documented seasonal growth patterns for decades.

During summer months, kids
spend more time outdoors (more Vitamin D from sunlight), sleep longer without school schedules disrupting rest, are
generally more physically active, and eat more consistently.

All of these factors directly influence growth hormone production and release.

This makes summer the most important window to pay attention to your child's growth, and also the best time to get a growth evaluation if you've had any concerns.

If your child has seemed shorter than their peers, fallen off their growth chart, or you've just had a nagging feeling that
something's off, this summer is the time to get answers.

At I Grow Clinic, we offer both in-person visits in Fullerton and telehealth consultations for families anywhere in California.

Your child hasn't complained once. But that doesn't mean everything is okay.

Kids rarely tell their parents when they feel different from their classmates. They don't say "I feel short", they just
quietly stop raising their hand in gym class, avoid sports tryouts, or laugh along when someone makes a height joke
because it feels easier than explaining how it makes them feel.

Height affects more than how tall your child will grow. It can shape how they see themselves, their confidence, their
willingness to step forward, their sense of belonging.

At I Grow Clinic, we talk to parents every week who waited because their child "seemed fine." And we talk to those
same parents years later, wishing they'd come in sooner.

You don't need your child to complain. You just need that quiet instinct in the back of your mind that something might
be worth checking.

That instinct is enough.

We've all heard it: drink your milk, eat your vegetables, and you'll grow up big and strong. But is it that simple?

The truth is, some of the most common beliefs about food and height are outdated, and some foods parents overlook are actually powerhouses for growth..

Here's what the science says:
MYTH: More milk = more height.
TRUTH: Calcium matters, but excess dairy doesn't automatically mean more growth. It's about total nutrient balance, calcium, Vitamin D, zinc, and protein working together.

The best thing you can do isn't following a magic food list, it's building a varied, nutrient-dense diet and catching
any deficiencies early.

Most parents know puberty is coming, but very few realize that when it starts can significantly affect their child's final adult height and long-term health.

Here's what the timeline actually looks like:
👧 Girls — puberty should begin between ages 8–13
👦 Boys — puberty should begin between ages 9–14

🚨 Precocious (Early) Puberty — signs appearing before age 8 in girls or age 9 in boys. When puberty starts too early, growth plates can close prematurely, cutting short your child's final adult height.
⏳ Delayed Puberty — no signs by age 13 in girls or age 14 in boys. This may point to an underlying hormonal issue that's worth a closer look.

Our advice: if you're seeing early signs, don't wait. If you're not seeing signs when you should, don't assume it'll sort itself out. Early evaluation means more options and more time to act.

📩 DM us with your child's age and what you're observing. We'll help point you in the right direction.

All medical evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians.

First steps. First words. First day of school. 🎒 We celebrate all of it.
But what about first centimeters?

Every inch your child grows is a milestone too, one that reflects how their bones, hormones, and organs are all developing together in real time. Height isn't just about genetics. It's a window into your child's overall health.

So when that growth slows down, when the milestones start to stall, it's not just a "phase." It's information. And it's worth paying attention to.

At I Grow Clinic in Fullerton, CA, we offer a Growth Plate Exam that uses AI-analyzed X-ray imaging to check your child's bone age and predict their final adult height. If there's a concern, we catch it early when intervention is still possible.

You don't have to wait and hope they catch up. You can know. And you can act. 💛

Most parents focus on genetics when it comes to their child's height, but what your child eats every single day plays a bigger role than you might think.

Here's the nutritional breakdown every parent should know:
✅ Protein builds the bone and tissue that growth depends on — think eggs, fish, legumes, and dairy
✅ Calcium + Vitamin D work together to strengthen growing bones (one without the other isn't enough)
✅ Zinc activates growth hormone and it's one of the most overlooked deficiencies in kids
✅ Iron directly supports growth velocity, low iron quietly slows your child down

On the flip side, these are the habits that work against growth:
❌ Excess sugar disrupts the balance between insulin and growth hormone
❌ Ultra-processed foods push out the nutrients that actually matter
❌ Skipping breakfast or dinner — both are peak windows for natural growth hormone release

The important thing to know: good nutrition gives your child the best possible foundation. But if there's an underlying hormonal issue, diet alone can't close that gap.

That's exactly why we're here. At I Grow Clinic, we specialize in pediatric growth. From nutrition guidance to FDA-approved growth hormone therapy, all medically supervised.

We're wired to notice weight. Height? Not so much, and that's where growth problems hide.

Think about it. If your child's weight fluctuates, you feel it when you pick them up. You see it in how their clothes fit. It's immediate and obvious.

But height grows in millimeters. Slowly. Quietly. And when you're with your child every single day, those tiny changes are almost invisible, until one day you're at a school event and realize their classmates are suddenly a head taller.

That moment catches so many families off guard. But it doesn't have to.

📏 What healthy height growth looks like (ages 2 to puberty):
✅ 5–6 cm/year → Healthy and on track
⚠️ 3–4 cm/year → Worth monitoring
🚨 Under 3 cm/year → Time to see a pediatric growth specialist

The fix is simple: measure your child's height every 6 months and track the change, not just the number.
