Holding this position stretches the suboccipital muscles and activates deep neck stabilizers that often get ignored 🧘‍♂️.

2️⃣ Scapular Retraction: Strengthens the muscles that support your neck and shoulders 💪. By pulling the elbows in and opening the hands outward, you activate the shoulder blades down and back, taking pressure off the neck and improving posture. At Pinecrest Chiropractic in Fuquay-Varina, NC 🏥, we use specific orthopedic tests to pinpoint the exact cause of your shoulder pain so we can treat it correctly 🎯. Every new patient starts with a range-of-motion exam 🔄, because differences side-to-side tell us a lot. Limited motion in one direction may point to muscle impingement ⚡, while restrictions in all directions can indicate arthritis or frozen shoulder ❄️🦴. That alone gives us powerful insight.

From there, we assess how well your shoulder blade muscles are working together 🧠. These stabilizers should share the workload - but when they don’t, the upper traps often take over 😤, leading to tension, pain, and poor movement patterns. That imbalance is a huge contributor to chronic shoulder issues.

We also perform targeted tests, like the empty can test 🥫 which stresses the supraspinatus - the most commonly injured rotator cuff muscle 🏋️‍♂️. Pain or weakness here is a major red flag 🚩. Finally, we evaluate the biceps tendon, a frequent source of front-shoulder pain, through palpation and resisted movement tests 💥.
