CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS! Advocates often ask how they can make a difference in times like these, when things are happening quickly and changing all the time. Ohio Olmstead Task Force urges the public to contact your elected officials about House Bill 795. We showed up on June 3rd, but we need every voice reaching those offices in Columbus every day as this bill is workshopped.

Tell your representatives what Medicaid means to you, about the difference that having paid family caregivers makes for the disability community. Talk about independence versus institutions. We need this bill slowed down until more discussion can be had, and safeguards put in place. Tell them your story, do not let them look away.

Check the comments for contact information for your elected officials. will fight for !

“To say ‘they're just being helped with chores and menial tasks’ when you yourself have never needed help brushing your own teeth or physically doing laundry. Until you talk with the people who have these lived experiences, you’ll never know or understand the harm that will come from losing these services.”

While leadership misrepresents caregiving services to the public, people with disabilities are being left out of the conversation.

Comprehensive data hasn’t been shown to support the allegations of ‘rampant fraud’ in the system. Ohio MUST provide transparency regarding fraud and abuse before freezing or cutting services for people with disabilities.
