February is National Heart Month! ❀️ Its a month to be mindful of eating healthfully, lifestyle habits and getting in some movement for a healthy heart.

Getting in movement is essential for a healthy heart, mind and body. Sitting is the new smoking!

If you're struggling to find time to exercise, it can be helpful to split it up throughout the day. You can divide those recommended 30 minutes of activity into the things you are already doing and the places you are already going.

For example, you could leave a few minutes early for work and park at the back of the parking lot, take the steps instead of the elevator or go for a 10 minute walk at lunch.

For those working from home, take a 10-15 minute walk around the block at lunchtime. You could also carry laundry up the stairs room by room instead of throwing it all in a laundry basket and taking the stairs once. Small efforts throughout the day do add up.

Where can you get in some movement in your day? Your heart, mind and body will thank you!

How are you doing so far in 2024 with your lifestyle habits? πŸŽπŸ’ƒπŸ₯¦πŸ πŸ₯’

Studies show many people can give up on their goals even by January 17th!

What are the areas you would like to focus on right now to stay true to your goals?

A 6th one below could be to make sure you get in your "me time" to make sure you are centered by carving out time, preferably in the morning, to journal, pray and just "be" before the day gets ahead of you.

It can help you be more calm and in control during the day!

Don't forget a balanced breakfast too so you have more stable blood sugars which can help avoid those cravings throughout the day.

I hope your holidays have been enjoyable and not too stressful! Is that even possible?? :)

Stress can be caused by so many different things...financial stress of the season, strained relationships, a change in routines and traditions, pressure to feel that everything has to be perfect.

I could go on and on.

The good news is that most of this is a state of mind and sometimes unrealistic expectations we place on ourselves and others. We can choose to let go of control and the pressure for everything to be "perfect".

Then there is the loneliness factor. Not everyone has family to see and many are alone this season. But you are NOT forgotten!

My friend Jane Burt and I discuss ways we have handled being by ourselves during the holidays in hopes it encourages you and gives you some ideas on how to handle it in a more positive way and reframe the situation.

Remember that joy is something we can control as it's in our hearts. Our joy is based on the promises of God found in his word. Without it I don't know where I'd be. Watch for more tips and discussion.

See the comments for the link to my YouTube channel and I wish you all a joy-filled Christmas and Holiday season. πŸŽ„πŸŽβ€οΈ The best is yet to come!

Wow, we have one week before Christmas for those who celebrate it! πŸŽπŸŽ„πŸŽ…πŸΌ

How is everyone doing with stress, gift wrapping/shopping, food menus etc?

Something I heard today in a meeting was "Say No and Say Yes to YOU". Are you doing too much? Do you need to give all those gifts (speaking to the choir here too 🎁)? Does the menu you are planning have to be elaborate? Can you simplify anything?

This is also a season where we have a lot of expectations on how the holidays should look like or how we wish they would go.

Rarely do they ever turn out how we picture them. Try going with the flow more and releasing trying to control things. You'll release a lot of stress! I had to do this last year and after the sadness & disappointments, I have more freedom this year in going with the flow of things.

Today, take a few minutes to close your eyes and BREATHE in & out. Picture yourself smiling in the middle of the chaos and actually put a smile on your face even now. It’s all going to be OK. The holidays can be tough for sure but I pray also lots of joy for you.

My friend Jane Burt & I are planning on doing a Zoom video this week to post on Youtube regarding these topics. I'll let you know when its up!

Staying positive can literally keep you healthy.

Where can you let some things go so you can enjoy and be less stressed? Have a good week!

Wow, its December already! It's a month full of lots to do, stress, but also, fun, parties, cookie baking etc.

BUT let's not forget what its really about - this is a time to reflect God's love and grace to each other, including to ourselves, as He did for us over 2000 years ago by sending Jesus to be among us to demonstrate God's love for us ❀️

To make it a little fun, I am holding a Virutal "Open House" to share some of my favorite things you can do to help you enjoy the holidays more.

From a couple of recipe demos, some simple exercise moves you can do to keep moving, a craft, stress reducing tips and more!

Its free and on Zoom and in a Facebook Group as well this Friday December 8th at 1pm EST.

See link in the comments to register. Hope to see you there! πŸŽπŸŽ„

Happy Thanksgiving! πŸπŸ‚πŸ— I'm so grateful for you all!!

Here we go, the "feasting" season! Though it doesn't have to be that way.

You CAN enjoy the Holidays like Thanksgiving and end the day not feeling bloated, lethargic and just plain gross.

Here are a few tips to help you navigate Thanksgiving and also holiday parties coming up!

1. Don't go too hungry. Eat a little something in the morning so you kick start your metabolism and don't go to your Thanksgiving meal or party famished, ready to devour everything and quickly! Even an apple and handful of nuts can keep you satisfied for a while so you can make healthier choices.

2. Survey all the options before filling your plate. Being in control and with a mindset of enjoying but being strategic with healthier choices in mind, look at what options are available and go for 1/2 of your plate vegetable dishes, enjoy the lean turkey full of satisfying protein & THEN with a little room left, enjoy a few bits of what you absolutely can't do without.

3. Chew slowly and enjoy more than just the food. Keep in mind what this holiday is all about - being thankful and grateful for all you have, including your health! When tempted to go for more, take a few minutes to digest, go for a walk, talk with those around you and see if you truly want that 2nd helping later.

Above all, enjoy your day and do not stress about the food! That makes it all worse on your digestive system. Stay calm and just enjoy yourself! 😎 If you overdid it, move on and get back on track Friday!

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving! I'm so grateful for all of you! πŸ—πŸπŸ πŸ½οΈπŸ₯§

Be blessed-
Lori
