Narcan found at scene of Hayden Panettiere’s apparent overdose: report https://pge.sx/4hHDwT6
A vicious disease. And sometimes, heartbreakingly hard to escape.
Hayden Panettiere was just 36 years old.
She had spoken openly about her struggles with addiction, her treatment and her efforts to rebuild her life. Now, reports say she was found unresponsive following an apparent overdose.
Perhaps the most heartbreaking detail: Narcan was reportedly found on the mattress.
A medication designed to reverse an opioid overdose was right there.
We don't yet know whether it was used, and her official cause of death has not been determined. But the image of Narcan lying beside someone who could not be saved is devastating.
Because addiction doesn't care about fame, talent, money, motherhood or how desperately someone wants a different life.
Substance use disorder is a chronic, relentless disease. Recovery is possible, but it requires more than getting sober once. It requires support, connection and people who keep showing up.
August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day.
This year, remember Hayden. Remember the thousands of people whose names never make the news. Remember the families who loved them.
And keep Narcan close. Learn how to use it. Never assume someone is "past" the danger.
Recovery deserves another day. And another. And another.
