🧬 Advancing the understanding of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis

Researchers at the University of Florida have identified new genetic clues that may help explain how adolescent idiopathic scoliosis develops. The study examined muscle and cartilage tissue to better understand the biological processes behind the condition, laying the groundwork for future research and potential treatment advances.

The research highlights the collaborative efforts of UF Orthopaedics physicians Stephanie Ihnow, MD, and Jessica McQuerry, MD, who helped recruit patients, evaluate participants and collect the tissue samples that made this study possible.

🎉 Exciting news for our Adult Reconstruction Fellowship!

The University of Florida Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine's Adult Reconstruction Fellowship has been part of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Fellowship Recognition Program since its inception in 2023, reflecting our commitment to providing the highest quality educational and training experience for the next generation of hip and knee surgeons.

Building on that commitment, our fellowship has now been awarded funding through the AAHKS Fellowship Education Improvement and Innovation Program. The competitive grant supports innovative educational initiatives that enhance fellowship training and help prepare future leaders in hip and knee arthroplasty.

This recognition reinforces UF Orthopaedics' dedication to excellence in education, research and patient care while continuing to advance the future of adult reconstruction.

The University of Florida Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine proudly announces that MaryBeth Horodyski, EdD, LAT, ATC, FNATA, FNAP, has been elected as the next President of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Research and Education Foundation (NATA Foundation). She will officially assume office in June 2025.

Dr. Horodyski, a highly respected leader in the field of athletic training, currently serves as the Director of Research at at the UF College of Medicine. With more than three decades of experience in clinical research, education, and advocacy, she has significantly advanced the profession through her contributions to evidence-based practices and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This national distinction recognizes orthopaedic surgeons who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, scholarship, and service in the field.

Dr. Roach, a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and complex shoulder, hip, and knee surgery, serves as an assistant professor at and holds the Wayne Huizenga Endowed Professorship in Sports Medicine. He is also a team physician for the Florida Gators, and provides care to athletes ranging from local high school students to USA olympians.
