For more than 30 years, Mimi's vision and steadfast leadership helped shape one of the region's most respected medical practices, caring for generations of Northeast Georgia families. Mimi Collins didn’t plan on staying in Gainesville when she arrived in 1994 to join the fledgling Longstreet Clinic, a multispecialty group of physicians, as its founding executive director.

Aortic dissection has been in the news recently due to it being the suspected cause of death of Sen. Lindsey Graham. Longstreet Clinic vascular surgeon Daniel Torrent, M.D., recently joined Atlanta News First to explain what aortic dissection is, its causes, risk factors for the condition and things adults can do to prevent it. At 65, Connie’s weight was affecting her health.

Instead of giving up, she called the Center for Weight Management and had gastric bypass surgery. After losing over 180 pounds, she had surgery to remove extra stomach skin (panniculectomy). Now, she walks without support, has had a much needed knee replacement, and enjoys a new, active life. Connie’s journey has brought her a fresh start she never imagined. 💙
