Ever wonder why massage therapists warm up an area first?

You may notice your therapist beginning with broader, lighter techniques before moving into more focused work.

This can help the therapist assess how the tissues feel and gradually introduce more pressure.

Think of it as saying hello before immediately jumping into the serious conversation.

Tell your massage therapist about your pressure preferences before you start.

If you already know you prefer light pressure, say so.

If you like medium pressure, say so.

If you enjoy deeper work, tell us.

And remember that your preference can change during the appointment.

Your massage isn’t a test.

There isn’t a ā€œcorrectā€ pressure.

Why do massage therapists ask about your day?

Because context matters.

How much sitting do you do?

Are you on your feet all day?

Do you lift things?

Do you work at a computer?

Do you exercise?

Are there certain movements that bother you?

Your everyday activities can give your massage therapist useful information when planning your session.

Sometimes you can be sore from certain techniques but don’t let soreness be a benchmark for the effectiveness of your massage.

Add some extra time to your next massage to focus on your feet, or better yet book a reflexology session!

Your feet work hard.

They support you when you stand.

They absorb forces when you walk.

They help you balance.

They adjust to different surfaces.

And they spend a LOT of time inside shoes.

So yes, your feet deserve some attention too. šŸ‘£

ā€œ I didn’t know how tight my shoulders were until you started working on them.ā€

Sometimes you don’t realize how much tension you’re carrying until someone points it out.

Your body can become so accustomed to a certain level of tension that it starts feeling normal.

What is a therapeutic massage?

Therapeutic massage can incorporate a variety of techniques and pressure levels based on what you’re hoping to address.

It may include focused work on areas of muscle tension while still considering the rest of the body.

The goal isn’t simply ā€œas deep as possible.ā€

It’s about using appropriate techniques for the person in front of you.

What exactly is a relaxation massage?

A relaxation massage generally uses flowing, comfortable techniques and pressure designed to create a calming experience.

It’s a great option when your main goal is simply to slow down and unwind.

Not every massage has to be intense.

Sometimes your body just wants a break.

You can do or be anything you wish if you keep going.

Why do some people fall asleep during massage? 😓

Because they’re comfortable?

Because they’re tired?

Because they’ve finally stopped thinking about their grocery list for five consecutive minutes?

Probably a combination of things.

Massage creates a quiet environment with repetitive sensory input and time to relax, so it’s not unusual for someone to become sleepy.

And if you wake yourself up with a little snore…

Don’t worry, we take it as a compliment 😃
