September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month
Not all blood cancers are widely known. Some are rare, affecting a much smaller number of people, but every diagnosis matters, and every patient deserves awareness, support, and hope. ♥️
🩸 A few rare blood cancers include:
Hairy Cell Leukemia (HCL) — a rare, slow-growing type of leukemia.
Waldenström Macroglobulinemia (WM) — a rare blood cancer involving abnormal B cells that produce an excess of a protein called IgM.
T-cell Large Granular Lymphocytic Leukemia (T-LGLL) — a rare leukemia affecting certain immune cells.
Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm (BPDCN) — a very rare and aggressive blood cancer.
Myelofibrosis (MF) — a rare blood cancer that affects the bone marrow and can interfere with normal blood-cell production.
Adult T-cell Leukemia/
Lymphoma (ATLL) — a rare type of leukemia/lymphoma associated with HTLV-1 infection.
Why awareness matters:
Rare blood cancers can be difficult to recognize and may require specialized testing and expertise. Increasing awareness can help patients and families find information, support, and appropriate care.
