September is National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, and Construction Su***de Prevention Week is September 14–18, 2026.
For those of us working in construction and occupational safety, su***de prevention is a workplace safety issue too. The demands of construction—long hours, time away from family, physical pain, jobsite pressures, financial stress, and a culture where people may feel they have to “tough it out”—can take a serious toll on mental health.
At National Safety & Health, we believe protecting workers means looking beyond hard hats, fall protection, equipment, and compliance. It also means recognizing when someone may be struggling and creating a workplace where people feel comfortable speaking up and asking for help.
Check in on your coworkers. Pay attention to changes in behavior. Take warning signs seriously. Sometimes a simple conversation can make a tremendous difference.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis or having thoughts of su***de, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. If there is an immediate danger or emergency, call 911.
This month—and especially during Construction Su***de Prevention Week—let’s remind our industry that mental health is part of safety.
You matter. Your coworkers matter. Everyone deserves to make it home safely—physically and mentally.
