Let’s help Love's Reflection make a child in palliative care’s day a little brighter!

A simple card with a kind message can mean so much to a child and their family.

If you would like to help, you can drop off cards at our office, and we will make sure they get into the hands of Love’s Reflection to share with children at Akron Children's in palliative care.

Let’s come together as a community and spread a little love, hope, and kindness to children who need it most.

💛 HELP US DELIVER 500 MESSAGES OF HOPE! 💛

This September, in honor of **Childhood Cancer Awareness Month**, Love’s Reflection is asking our community to help us surround children in Palliative Care at Akron Children’s Hospital with something incredibly simple, but incredibly powerful:

Words of love, hope, encouragement, and JOY. ❤️

Our goal is to collect 500 handmade cards and letters by September 24th!

Why 500?

Because we don’t want to give each child just one card. We want every child who cannot leave the hospital to receive a BIG STACK of cards and letters reminding them that there are people out here thinking about them, cheering for them, and sending them love.

And we need YOUR help to make that happen!

💌 WHO DO I ADDRESS IT TO?
We will not have the children’s names, so you can use something uplifting like:

“Dear Warrior,”
“Dear Superhero,”
“Dear Amazing Kid,”
“Dear Brave Friend,”
“Dear Champion,”
or simply, “Dear Friend,”

🌟 WHAT SHOULD I WRITE?
This is VERY important: **Please keep every message positive, uplifting, encouraging, and full of hope.**

Tell them they are amazing. Make them laugh. Draw them a picture. Tell them someone is thinking about them. Remind them how special they are. Fill the card with sunshine!

Please avoid talking about illness, treatments, getting better, or anything that could make assumptions about what the child is facing. **Our only job is to bring JOY.**

❤️ Get your classroom involved.
❤️ Ask your church or youth group.
❤️ Make them with coworkers.
❤️ Get your entire organization involved!

Imagine being a child who can't leave the hospital and having someone walk into your room carrying an entire stack of cards made just for kids like you.

Now imagine knowing hundreds of people took the time to remind you that you matter.

That’s what we want to create.

This fundraiser is especially meaningful to us because we get to see firsthand how important grief support is for families in our community. Your support helps us continue being there for children and families when they need us most.

National Grief Awareness Day | August 30th

Today is a day to pause and remember the people we love who are no longer here.

Grief is love with nowhere to go. It’s missing their voice, their laugh, their hugs, and the little things that once seemed so ordinary. It’s the empty chair at the table, the familiar song that brings back a thousand memories, and the moments when you still reach for your phone before remembering you can’t call them anymore.

Grief doesn’t end when the funeral is over. It changes. It becomes part of who we are, and we learn to carry both the sadness of their absence and the love they left behind.

Today, we encourage you to say their name. Share a memory. Look at the pictures. Tell someone about them. Remembering someone doesn’t keep us stuck in grief—it honors the life they lived and the love that will always remain.

And if today is a hard day for you, please know you don't have to pretend you're okay. Give yourself permission to grieve, however that looks for you.

💚 You are not alone. Your grief matters. Your loved one matters. And their memory matters.

This event is about more than just a walk. It’s about remembering the people we love, honoring those who have fought their battles, celebrating survivors, and coming together as a community to support one another.

We all have a story. We all have someone we remember, someone we celebrate, or someone whose journey has touched our lives.

We invite you to bring your family and friends and walk with us as we share their stories, honor their journeys, and celebrate hope and survivorship.

August is Grief Awareness Month.

Grief is a journey that looks different for everyone. It doesn’t have a timeline, and there is no “right” or “wrong” way to grieve.

This month, we want to remind you to:
💚 Be patient with yourself and others who are grieving.
💚 Listen without trying to fix or minimize someone’s pain.
💚 Remember that grief can come from many types of loss—not just the loss of a loved one.
💚 Reach out to someone who may be struggling. Sometimes simply saying, “I’m here for you,” can mean so much.

At Avita Home Health & Hospice, we understand that grief doesn’t end when hospice care ends. We are here to support individuals and families through their grief journey.
