🧠 Recovery starts with fuel.

After a brain injury, your brain needs nutrients to heal and function at its best. Prioritize protein, fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and plenty of water to support recovery and overall wellness. 🍓🍊🍉🥕🍅

Small healthy choices every day can make a big difference.

What is your favorite protein and veggie combination?

☀️✨ Creativity, connection, and recovery in action! ✨☀️

Our Brain Injury Program participants recently enjoyed a wonderful suncatcher-making group led by Jennifer Williams of Thrive Therapy of Kansas who generously donated her time, expertise, and materials to provide a meaningful opportunity for creative expression. We are grateful for her support and for helping our participants create something beautiful while engaging in a therapeutic and enjoyable activity.

Creative activities like making suncatchers offer more than just fun—they can play an important role in brain injury recovery:

🧠 Supports cognitive skills: Art projects encourage attention, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making, helping individuals exercise important thinking skills.

🎨 Promotes emotional well-being: Creative expression provides an outlet for emotions, reduces stress, and can improve self-confidence and overall mood.

🤝 Encourages social connection: Participating in group activities helps build relationships, fosters communication, and reduces feelings of isolation during recovery.

Thank you again to Jennifer Williams and Thrive Therapy of Kansas for making this special experience possible. The creativity, smiles, and colorful suncatchers brightened everyone's day! 🌈☀️

Your Voice Matters:
Help Shape the Future of TBI Disability Evaluations
Dear Community,

The National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is conducting a study to improve Social Security Disability evaluations for traumatic brain injury (TBI). The committee is reviewing scientific research to address how TBIs impact long-term functioning, and they recently held a panel discussion to gather insights on recovery and late effects.
Because research only tells part of the story, the committee is requesting individuals with lived experience—people with traumatic brain injury (TBI), caregivers, and community partners to anonymously share their perspectives. This feedback will help bring real-world awareness to those reviewing social security applications.

How to help:
Share your perspective: If you have been impacted by a TBI, please consider contributing your story.

Pass it on: Share this opportunity with others who have navigated life after a TBI. Your insights can directly improve the committee’s understanding and help future families navigate social security needs.

We reminded some very important people today to celebrate all the wins, big or small! Every victory is important because it means there is progress, it means someone didn’t give up, it means someone pushed through fatigue, someone pushed through pain, someone pushed themselves to do something they’ve never done before!
Every milestone matters.
