William Dean Vineyard, 91, of Geneseo, died peacefully at his home on Monday, August 17, 2026. Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo Chapel. Pastor Michel Clark will officiate. A memorial visitation will be held one hour before the funeral service, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest beside his wife of 70 years at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), 1112 W Kimberly Road, Davenport, IA 52806. Online condolences may be left for William on the funeral home’s website (www.vandemorefuneralhome.com).

Bill was born on November 30, 1934, in Marysville, Kansas, to Samuel James Staley and Rosetta Olga (Wiese) Vineyard. Bill’s family moved to Hastings, Nebraska, where he graduated from high school. After graduation, Bill enlisted in the US Air Force for four years. While in the Air Force, he met the love of his life, Gertie Mae Waymack. The couple married in Cabot, Arkansas, on May 18, 1956. They later moved to Hastings, Nebraska, where Bill graduated from Hastings College, earning a degree in both mathematics and physics. After graduating, he taught at a high school in Glenvil, Nebraska. In 1963, Bill relocated his family to Illinois when he accepted a job at John Deere as an industrial engineer.

Bill really enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He also enjoyed working with his hands building things. He was very proud of the three-bedroom home in Colona that he built for his family. Eventually, his family moved from that home in Colona to live in Geneseo.

Together with his wife, Gertie, Bill raised four children. Those children later married and gave them four grandsons, a great-grandson, and a great-granddaughter.

Bill is survived by his four children, daughter Cindy (Dennis) Frisk, grandson Curt Frisk; daughter Stephanie (Rodger) Rickman, grandson Royce (Jen) Rickman, and great-grandchildren Brock and Bryli Rickman, grandson David Rickman; son James (Robyn) Vineyard; son Billy (Teresa) Vineyard, and grandson Grant Vineyard.

Bill was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Gertie; parents, Samuel James Staley and Rosetta Olga (Wiese) Vineyard; brothers James Staley Vineyard, Jr. and Francis Eugene Vineyard.

The Vineyard family was blessed with a wonderful care team from Heartland Hospice. A special thanks to our father’s weekly caregivers, Megan and Amber, and after-hours caregiver Gretchen, for providing wonderful, compassionate, and loving care.
