Terry Gene Thompson, 77, of Geneseo, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at UnityPoint Health- Trinity Rock Island Hospital, Rock Island, IL. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Tim Brinkman will officiate. The service will be livestreamed at www.vandemorefuneralhome.com/live-stream. A private burial will follow at Lusk Cemetery, Albany, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Terry Thompson was born on June 22, 1948, in Moline, Illinois, to William “Cal” and Doris (Shatterman) Thompson. He graduated from Moline High School before completing technical school in Des Moines, Iowa.

He began his career at IBM, relocating to New York, where he worked on projects supporting NASA. After 30 years with the company, he retired. After retirement from IBM, Terry continued to work full-time at SBM in Sterling, Illinois, until his death.

On August 10, 1968, Terry married Cheryl Mae McCubbin. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2020.

For many years, he owned and operated the Riverside Teen Center in Fulton, Illinois. Terry found deep joy in boating, music, rooting for the Chicago Bears, and—above all—spending time with his daughter and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include daughters, Christine (Joe) Fiems of Colona; grandchildren, Joseph (Kylie) DeKezel, CJ (Tawny) DeKezel, Dakota (Baylie) DeKezel and Meagan (Brandon) Anderson, all of Cambridge, and Joseph (Ali) Fiems of Moline, IL; thirteen great-grandchildren; niece, Melissa Digneo; and nephew, Todd Riley.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Doris Thompson; wife, Cheryl Thompson; daughter, Nicole Roberts; son, Michael Thompson; and sister, Pat Lindsey.
