Oftentimes, the way we describe our problems to other people is an indicator of how we see the world and ourselves.

A common adage to identify yourself to people is a “glass half full” or a “glass half empty” person. The way we communicate shows how we think.

In this video, Noah Throw, Teen & Couples Therapist, shares how changing our language can change our outlook.

Right now, studies show that about 2.5% of adults and 5% of children in the United States have ADHD. That’s 1 in 40 adults and 1 in 20 children. That’s a lot.

These high numbers suggest that a lot of people don’t know they have ADHD or think they have ADHD but haven’t been tested for it. This is a problem because many practitioners will not provide ADHD medication unless a person has been tested and diagnosed.

In this video, Nicholas Amitrano, Adolescent & Adult Therapist at Cedar Tree Counseling, talks about 5 things to know about ADHD testing to help you decide if ADHD testing is something you want and if it is right for you.

When it comes to healthy grieving many people want to be back to normal as soon as possible. They often have uncomfortable feelings and desire to escape the negativity that might remind them of their sadness. Many people try to hide from their pain by forcing normal daily routines or pretending that things are fine.

The problem is that grief is unpredictable and often overwhelming. It can cause irrational thoughts and behavior due to the stress of the sadness, sometimes to the point that they might experience extreme focus on reminders of the loss or excessive avoidance of those reminders.

In this video, Clare Fragomeni shares 4 aspects of healthy grieving that you can implement when heartbreak knocks at your door.

For some families, excessive social media use can create significant problems.

In the extreme cases, there have been young parents who have become so obsessed with their social media feeds that they have neglected their own children. This is certainly the extreme, but regularly in our work with kids we hear of parents who set very different rules of phone usage for themselves than they do with their children.

If you're concerned about you, your family’s, or your child's social media usage, there are several things you can do to limit the problem.

Here are a few tips:

📱Set screen time limits.
📱Create rules for using social media.
📱Disable notifications.
📱Monitor your usage.
📱Talk to your kids about social media.

The bottom line is that we still need more research to understand the full effects of social media on mental health. However, what we do know is that social media can be both good and bad for our mental wellbeing.
