OBITUARY: Tommy Ray Minshew

Tommy Ray Minshew of Geneva, Alabama passed away on August 18, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born in Geneva on December 14, 1935, to Thomas Minshew and Rosevelt Minshew.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, AL with Rev. Kevin Krist officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Ray grew up in Geneva helping his mother operate a small grocery store. In 1955, he graduated from Geneva High School. He then attended and graduated from the Massey Draughon Business College in Montgomery.

He returned to Geneva to marry his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Hatcher. Freshly married, he began his working journey, which included The American Bank, Geneva County Budget Clerk, Fleming Foods, and Reliable Metal Products.

Ray was a kind, compassionate, and devoted man. He had many joys in life, most notably, Alabama football, Alabama softball, and going after big fish. He greeted everybody he met with a smile and a firm handshake. He was driven to serve his country, state, and county through the Army National Guard of the United States and as former Geneva County Commissioner. He retired from the Army National Guard of the United States as Sergeant First Class. He never lacked in his dedication to his church and was grounded by his faith.

For Ray, family always came first. He was a loving husband, incredible father, and wonderful grandfather. Being an only child, he found immense happiness in having big family gatherings.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca Minshew of 70 years; his three children Mike (Lisa) Minshew, Shea (Wade) Johnson, and Tim (Heather) Minshew; and his six grandchildren Madison Minshew, Tom Minshew, Claudia Johnson, Sofie Johnson, Kiley Minshew, and Hatcher Minshew.

The love Ray has instilled in our lives over the many years will remain in our hearts forever.

The family wants to extend a gracious thank you to SouthernCare Hospice for their expertise and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to SouthernCare Hospice.

Deborah was born in Germany on June 03, 1958 to the late John Dewey Howell and Patsy Ziglar Howell. She enjoyed beautiful flowers and working in her yards. She was an avid animal lover, especially her little dogs.

Deborah is survived by one son, Kenneth Eric Bowden (Tanya Davis) of Goodman, AL; one grandson, Noah Bowden of New Orleans, LA; four siblings, Diann Pearson (Jerry) of Samson, AL, Tommy Howell (Kristy) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Janet Maloy (Clarence) of Samson, AL and Marty Howell of Enterprise, AL and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

OBITUARY: Ruby Lee Burkett

Ruby Lee Bass Burkett, of Geneva, AL, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old. No services are planned at this time.

Ruby was born on April 3, 1941, to the late Jim Nathan and Flora Lee Forman Bass. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, fishing, and wood burning.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Burkett; one son, Robert Earl Burkett; two grandsons, Jeremy Burkett and Kenneth Burkett; and six siblings.

Ruby is survived by her five children, Gale Harrison, Burt Burkett, Patricia Burkett, Dwane Burkett, and Hilda Wells; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Roy Bruce “Moose” Spears, Jr., of Dothan, AL, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side. He was 79 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church of Dothan with Rev. Lynn Smilie Nesbitt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery in Samson, AL, with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL, directing.

Moose was born on August 22, 1946, to the late Roy Bruce Spears, Sr. and Nellie Crews Spears. He was an avid golfer and was always happiest when he was on the golf course. Moose also enjoyed traveling with close family and friends and attending Alabama football games.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Finch Spears; and one brother, John David Spears.

He is survived by one son, Barry Spears (Sandie) of Alabaster, AL; one daughter, Ashley Cannon (Chris) of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren, Grayson Spears and Elizabeth Spears of Alabaster, AL; one brother, Eddie Spears (Rhonda) of Geneva, AL; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

OBITUARY: Sandra "Sandy" Yvonne Infinger Reagan

Sandra “Sandy” Yvonne Infinger Reagan passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, at her home in Geneva, Alabama. She was born in Red Bay, Florida, April 30, 1944, to Hughie Infinger and Bertha Montgomery Infinger. She was a graduate of Walton High School – Class of 1962. After high school she moved to Geneva for work. It was there at a church social she was introduced to Donald “Wayne” Reagan and they married in 1964. Sandra and Wayne recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Sandy was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and (where she found her greatest joy) Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As the mother of four, she gave her love freely to family, friends, neighbors and total strangers alike. She was a compassionate woman who loved helping others and her motherly advice was sought by many. She was someone you wanted to be around, to befriend, to sit with and enjoy long talks. She filled a room with sunshine from her bright eyes and her smile.

She served her community as a courthouse clerk in both the tax collector’s and the land assessor’s offices. Her personality was infectious and you most likely walked out of the courthouse with a smile on your face and a new friend after visiting Sandy, even if you had only come in to pay a bill. Sandy also served as a Scout Leader/Mom for both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and a Geneva Band Mom, providing life skills to our community’s youth. A devoted antique collector, she turned that passion into a small business of her own. Her children still remember weekends spent combing antique stores for rare pieces of Depression glass.

Sandy led a life guided by God. She served her church family as a United Methodist lay speaker, sharing her faith from the pulpit with warmth, humility, and a conviction that steadied anyone who heard her. She gave freely of her time and her heart, asking nothing in return. She was a committed, faithful member of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church in Samson and Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Geneva.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Danna Brooks (Jimmy) and Suzy Green, brother-in-law Bill Stewart, sister-in-law Lorraine Reagan, and her granddaughter Molly Arizona Pettis.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Wayne Reagan of Geneva; her four children, Shanna Brock (Ricky) of Geneva, Jason Reagan (Alison) of Geneva, Stacie Pettis (Johnathan) of Geneva, and Nicholas Reagan of Pensacola, FL; her siblings, Rodney Infinger (Anita) of Freeport, FL, and Camy White (Richard) of Hartford; her sister-in-law, Redetha Stewart of Mobile, her brothers-in-law, Bill Green of DeFuniak Springs, FL and Royce Reagan (Jackie) of Marianna, FL; her grandchildren, Colton Pettis (Nikki) and Reagan Pettis; her great-grandchildren, MollyAnn and John River Pettis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the earthly angels that walked with them in caring for Sandy, Mrs. Misty, Mrs. Tara and Mrs. Nicole.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, August 17 at 6:00 p.m. at Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva, AL. Visitation will precede the service with the family receiving friends beginning at 5:00 p.m.

OBITUARY: David Horace Simmons

Mr. David Horace Simmons of Samson, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 71 years old.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Samson First Methodist Church with Rev. Phil Craddock and Rev. Dustin Wise officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samson First Methodist Church, 204 West Main Street, Samson, AL 36477, or to Merle Wallace Purvis Center, 1682 East County Road 4, Black, AL 36314.

David was born in Hartford, Alabama, on October 9, 1954, to the late Horace Greely, Jr. and Mary Ellen Jeffcoat Simmons. He spent many years teaching and coaching at Samson High School and ended his career as the IT director with the Geneva City Schools. David loved sports and especially enjoyed coaching and sharing his love of athletics with his students and athletes.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. David also took great pride in keeping his yards and vehicles immaculate and was known for washing his cars every week. Most of all, he loved his family dearly. David lived life to the fullest and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Leonora “Nodie” Faulk Simmons of Samson, AL; two daughters, Naomi Kate Simmons of Samson, AL, and Kristi Simmons McHenry (Casey) of Panama City, FL; two grandsons, Brody McHenry and Gavin McHenry, both of Panama City, FL; bonus son, Alejandro “Hondo” Grajales Flaquer of Columbus, OH; one sister, Nedra Simmons Patchett of Dothan, AL; one brother, Andrew “Andy” Simmons (Sharlene) of Hacoda, AL; four nephews, Ashley Simmons, Shaun Patchett (Caitlyn), Trey Faulk (Jennifer) and Bruce Faulk (Megan); one great niece and four great nephews, along with a host of extended family and friends.

Lynn was born in Montgomery, AL, on January 7, 1969, to Rufus Edward and Annette Ausley Kervin. She was an avid animal lover, especially cats. She also loved country music and was a huge fan of Dolly Parton.

Lynn participated in various Special Olympics events throughout Alabama and Georgia. She was especially known for her softball throw and sprints competitions in the Special Olympics.

Fannie Pearl Taylor Linton of Samson, AL passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026. She was 96 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Snell officiating and Anna Clark delivering the eulogy. Mrs. Linton was born in Pike County, AL on August 02, 1930 to the late George Washington and Lorene Gunter Taylor. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed baking, sewing and taking care of her family. She retired from the textile industry and the retail sales industry with Family Dollar stores. She believed in hard work, honesty and integrity, values that she taught all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, J B Linton; one daughter, Jean Clingan; one grandson, Chad Norris and two sisters, Catherine Cook and Tiny Merritt.

George Andrew Hungerman, age 77, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Leddon Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing.

Mr. Hungerman was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to the late Earl Benard and Delora Donley Hungerman. George proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching football, especially his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sandra Kay Hungerman, and one brother, Michael Gregory Hungerman.

Keisha was born on June 03, 1966 in Geneva, Alabama to the late James Edward and Linda Jean Hicks Shirah. She was an avid lover of the outdoors, being in nature and enjoying the beautiful sunshine. She was a hard worker but valued her time spent with family and close friends. Keisha was a private person but was always available to anyone who might need her. She was confident in her faith and was certain that Heaven would be her home forever.

In addition to her parents, Keisha was preceded in death by one son, Lance Shirah.

Keisha is survived by one daughter, Jessie Childree (Michael) of Geneva, AL; one brother, Steve Shirah (Carla) of Lexington, SC; two special nephews, Gabriel Shirah and Alex Shirah, both of Lexington, SC and the father of her daughter, James Thompson of Dothan, AL.
