We are so happy share that Paula Rainey has just celebrated her 3-month anniversary with us and she has made herself right at home with us, just as we knew she would.

Paula loves working with all ages who have experienced trauma, by helping children learn to feel safe again in their worlds, helping parents and families feel more stable and reconnected, and supporting adults to experience true healing.

Paula is a Licensed Social Worker and is trained in acute trauma, family systems, and working with families who have experienced sexual and domestic violence.

Paula is in-network with BCBS PPO plans, Aetna, and United Healthcare.

We have some exciting news to share!

Creating Space Therapy has been named a 2025 Best of Batavia Award winner in the Mental Health Services category, and honestly, this one hit us right in the heart.

Five years of showing up for Batavia families. Five years of sitting with grief, walking through trauma, and watching people find their way back to themselves. This award belongs to every single person who trusted us with something deeply personal, and to the incredible team of clinicians who shows up every day with skill and compassion.

We may have moved our office one mile up the road to Geneva, but our commitment to the Fox Valley community has never been stronger. We are grateful, we are humbled, and we are not done yet.

Something I hear from parents all the time: "I know something is wrong, but I don’t know if it’s bad enough to get help."

It’s one of the most common things that keeps families from reaching out. And it makes complete sense. We don’t want to overreact. We want to believe our kids will be okay.

But here’s something worth knowing: trauma isn’t defined by what happened. It’s defined by how a child’s nervous system responded to what happened. Two children can go through the same experience and be affected very differently. What feels manageable to one child can be genuinely overwhelming to another.

If your child has seemed different lately and you’re not sure what to make of it, you don’t need a diagnosis or a dramatic event to reach out. You just need that quiet feeling that something has shifted.

We wrote something for parents who are in that in-between place. No jargon, no pressure. Just some honest information about childhood trauma and what support can look like.

Why childhood trauma is not what most people think it is, why early support matters, and what trauma therapy for children actually looks like

If you have ever stood in the kitchen after a meltdown, a slammed door, or a tantrum that came out of nowhere and asked yourself, "What am I doing wrong?" This one is for you.

The truth is, you are probably not doing anything wrong. Kids who struggle with big emotions, meltdowns, and temper tantrums are often communicating something they don't yet have words for. And you deserve to understand what that is.
,
We wrote this article to give you some real answers and practical tools because parenting through the hard moments is a lot easier when someone helps you make sense of them.
