Myth: If you can hear sounds, your hearing is fine.

Fact: Many people with hearing loss can hear sounds but struggle to understand speech, especially in noisy environments.

If conversations have become harder to follow, a hearing consultation can help identify the cause.

Your Spouse Says You Have Hearing Loss… You Say They Mumble. Who’s Right?👂

“My spouse mumbles!” It’s something I hear in the audiology office ALL the time. 😄

Here’s the catch: early hearing loss doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t hear someone talking. You may hear their voice just fine, but certain speech sounds can become less clear—making it genuinely seem like people are mumbling.

So instead of debating who’s right, don’t argue about it. Test it. 👏

A comprehensive hearing test can quickly tell us whether hearing loss is contributing to those “mumbling” conversations.

Now I want to hear from the couples: Who gets accused of mumbling in your house? 😂 Tell me in the comments!

There are several possible reasons for a clogged-ear sensation, including earwax, an ear infection, sinus congestion, middle-ear fluid, Eustachian tube problems, or a change in your hearing.

The important thing is not to assume it’s “just congestion,” especially if you’ve noticed a change in your hearing.

A physician can examine your ear for obvious issues such as wax or infection. An audiologist can perform a comprehensive hearing evaluation and additional testing to determine whether the clogged sensation is associated with the middle ear or a change in hearing.

And if you experience a sudden significant decrease in hearing in one ear, don’t wait to have it evaluated. Sudden hearing loss can require prompt medical treatment.

When something changes with your hearing, it’s worth getting checked.

Some of life's most meaningful moments aren't always the loudest.

The laughter of a loved one, birds singing in the morning, or a gentle breeze through the trees are sounds worth protecting.

If hearing these moments has become more difficult, a hearing consultation can help.
