There are several possible reasons for a clogged-ear sensation, including earwax, an ear infection, sinus congestion, middle-ear fluid, Eustachian tube problems, or a change in your hearing.
The important thing is not to assume itâs âjust congestion,â especially if youâve noticed a change in your hearing.
A physician can examine your ear for obvious issues such as wax or infection. An audiologist can perform a comprehensive hearing evaluation and additional testing to determine whether the clogged sensation is associated with the middle ear or a change in hearing.
And if you experience a sudden significant decrease in hearing in one ear, donât wait to have it evaluated. Sudden hearing loss can require prompt medical treatment.
When something changes with your hearing, itâs worth getting checked.
