Before Healing Touch became a global community, it began with a nurse who believed there was more to caring for someone than completing the next clinical task.
In 1989, Janet Mentgen, RN, BSN, drew on decades of nursing experience and her energetic sensitivity to begin teaching Healing Touch.
Her intention was simple but powerful: strengthen the connection between nurses and their patients and bring compassionate, heart-centered care back into healthcare.
Janet began teaching nurses at Red Rocks Community College. And something resonated.
Healing Touch grew through grassroots connections, practitioner-to-practitioner conversations, and people sharing what they had experienced. Early students often described the feeling in four words:
“I have come home.”
More than 30 years later, Healing Touch has reached hospitals, classrooms, private practices, and communities around the world.
The organization has grown. The education has evolved. Professional standards and certification pathways have strengthened.
But the heart of Janet’s vision remains:
Healing belongs to everyone.
And every person has the capacity to bring greater compassion, presence, and care into the world. 💙
