VOTE “NO” to Delaware HB 422

Protect Evidence-Based Immunization Practices in Delaware!

The Delaware Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics opposes HB 422.

While informed consent is already a fundamental part of pediatric care, HB 422 creates additional requirements that may unintentionally increase vaccine hesitancy by implying a link between routine infant vaccinations and sudden infant death that has not been supported by scientific evidence.

Vaccines are among the most rigorously studied medical interventions and have dramatically reduced serious illnesses, hospitalizations, and deaths in children. Extensive research has found no causal relationship between routine childhood vaccinations and SIDS.

Parents deserve accurate, evidence-based information about vaccines, including their benefits and potential side effects. Pediatricians provide this information every day and partner with families to make informed decisions that protect children's health.

HB 422 risks undermining public confidence in life-saving immunizations at a time when vaccine-preventable diseases are re-emerging across the country.

We encourage Delaware legislators to vote NO on HB 422 and support policies that strengthen trust in science, public health, and the well-being of Delaware's children.

Dear Rainbow Pediatrics Families:

Rainbow Pediatrics fully supports the childhood immunization schedule
developed and recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The
AAP developed the very first childhood immunization schedule almost 100 years ago
and has continued to research, review, and recommend such a schedule annually
since then. The AAP schedule is based on evidence-based science and has only one
goal: to protect children from preventable diseases with safe and effective vaccine.
The most significant public health success in the US and worldwide has been the
development and administration of immunizations. Millions of lives have been saved.
Vaccines are given not only to protect the person who receives the vaccine but also
protect others who are too young to be vaccinated and those whose immune systems
are compromised such as by cancer or medications. Every vaccine on the schedule
has been thoroughly studied and the reasons why and when each one is
recommended has been very thoroughly considered. Because vaccines have been so
effective, many illnesses have become so uncommon that their devastating
consequences have been all but forgotten. Unfortunately. With the recent increase in
vaccine hesitancy and decline in immunizations, may of those illnesses like measles,
whooping cough, polio, and tetanus are already on the rise again, and we have
already started seeing their tragic consequences.
Rainbow Pediatrics encourages families to choose to protect their children per
the AAP’s guidelines, we will continue to provide our patient with accurate, evidence-
based information. We will never recommend a vaccine that we would not take
ourselves or give to our children. We encourage parents that have questions regarding
