June is Lipedema Awareness Month 💜
As we begin the first week of Lipedema Awareness Month, I wanted to share something a little more personal.
For years, I've worked with clients navigating swelling, pain, and lymphatic concerns. Along the way, I also began to recognize many of the signs of lipedema in my own body. While my journey is still unfolding, it has given me a deeper appreciation for how frustrating it can be to feel like you're doing all the "right things" and still not getting the answers or results you expect.
Lipedema is a chronic connective tissue disorder that primarily affects women and causes a painful, disproportionate buildup of fat tissue—most often in the legs, hips, buttocks, and sometimes the arms. It is not simply caused by overeating, inactivity, or lack of willpower.
Many people with lipedema are told to "just lose weight," when the reality is far more complex. That misunderstanding can leave people feeling discouraged, ashamed, and unseen.
Common signs include: 💜 Pain, tenderness, or heaviness in the legs or arms
💜 Easy bruising
💜 Swelling that worsens throughout the day
💜 A noticeable difference between the size of the lower body and upper body
💜 Difficulty losing fat in affected areas despite healthy lifestyle changes
One of the reasons awareness matters so much to me is that so many people spend years searching for answers. The more we talk about lipedema, the more likely someone will recognize themselves in the conversation and find the support they deserve.
Throughout June, I'll be sharing education, resources, and supportive strategies for those living with lipedema and other lymphatic conditions.
If this resonates with you, you're not alone. 💜
