Our West network has received Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval to begin enrolling patients in the ChoICE Study, a nationwide study evaluating ProSense® for women age 70 and older with early-stage, low-risk .

Unlike traditional surgery, cryoablation is a minimally invasive treatment that destroys tumors by freezing them. ProSense® is currently the only FDA-authorized device for use with endocrine therapy in this specific patient population.

The ChoICE Study will include 400 patients across 30 sites nationwide, with West serving as one of the participating centers. The study at West will be led by Dr. Richard Gilmore, breast surgical oncologist here at Margaret West Comprehensive Breast Center.

Previous clinical trial results with ProSense® showed a 3.1% local recurrence rate, along with high satisfaction with cosmetic outcomes among both patients and physicians.

Patient enrollment is expected to begin in the coming weeks.

❄️ Advancing the Future of Breast Cancer Treatment ❄️

Our Breast Center has received IRB approval to participate in the ChoICE Study, a multi-site study evaluating ProSense® with endocrine therapy for certain women age 70 and older with early-stage, low-risk .

Participation will be led by one of our breast surgical oncologists, Dr. Richard Gilmore, as one of 30 participating study sites across the country.

Cryoablation is a minimally invasive approach that destroys cancerous tissue by freezing the tumor, and may offer an alternative to surgical tumor removal for appropriately selected patients. The ChoICE Study will build upon previous research by gathering additional real-world data on the use of this FDA-authorized treatment.

🎗️ Advancing the Future of Breast Cancer Care 🎗️

We are so proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking clinical study with IceCure Medical, making our network the 1st U.S. clinical site for the company’s ProSense® technology.

The ChoICE Study will evaluate the use of ProSense® cryoablation in low-risk patients, enrolling approximately 400 patients across 30 clinical sites nationwide. This important research will help gather real-world data and advance the use of innovative, minimally invasive treatment options for eligible patients.

This technology, which has received FDA approval for use in patients age 70 and older with low-risk breast cancer, offers a potential alternative to traditional surgical treatment by using a minimally invasive approach designed with patient experience in mind.

The study within our network will be led by Dr. Richard Gilmore, breast surgical oncologist, whose expertise and leadership will help advance research focused on improving breast cancer treatment options.
