Grandparents Day: Stories Worth Sharing

The stories we carry can connect generations. Today we celebrate grandparents and older adults whose experiences, traditions and perspective continue to influence the people around them.

At Heron’s Key, there is always another conversation to join, interest to explore or reason to look forward to what is next.

Share, in the comments, a lesson learned from a grandparent with us!

A great community is about more than a beautiful place to live. It’s about the people who bring it to life every day.

This week, we’re celebrating the Heron’s Key team members whose compassion, expertise, humor and attention to detail help create a place where residents feel supported, connected and free to keep pursuing what matters to them.

To our incredible team, thank you for all the ways, big and small, you make Heron’s Key such a special place to call home.

A fulfilling life isn’t just about where you live. It’s about the people you meet, the interests you pursue and the opportunities you have to keep growing.

At Heron’s Key, connection happens naturally through shared interests, resident-led programs, lifelong learning and the simple moments that bring neighbors together.

Because staying engaged, discovering something new and building meaningful relationships shouldn’t have an expiration date.

Another Heron’s Key resident making a difference in our greater Gig Harbor community!

We loved seeing resident Clark Rowland recently featured by Gig Harbor Now for the time and expertise he shares with the Harbor History Museum. A retired professional land surveyor, Clark now puts his knowledge to work helping uncover answers about local properties, people, and Gig Harbor history.

We’re proud to see Clark’s continued curiosity and commitment to giving back highlighted in our local community. Thank you for all you do, Clark!

Clark Rowland spends four hours every week researching details of land sales and other matters, putting his surveying expertise to good use.

During our most recent photoshoot at Heron's Key, we asked our residents to simply show up as themselves.

And Jeannie did exactly that.

A talented artist with an incredible personality, Jeannie moved to Heron’s Key a few years ago and she is very much still in motion. Still creating. Still laughing. Still discovering. Still bringing color and joy to the people around her.

Just look at this photo. It says everything. ❤️

So many aging adults wonder:
“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞?”

Maybe we should be asking a different question:
“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐦𝐞?”

✫𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦?
✫𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵?
✫𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩?
✫𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵?

Because creativity doesn’t retire. And neither does curiosity, purpose or joy. Jeannie is a wonderful reminder that there is always more to create, discover and become.

“Independent Living Supports Super Seniors.”

At Heron’s Key, we see it every day. Retirement isn’t about slowing down. It’s about having the freedom, community and opportunities to keep exploring, connecting and doing more of what you love.

Because the best years can still be very much in motion.

What better way to celebrate summer than good food, great music, and even better company!

Residents and team members gathered earlier this week for our annual Summer BBQ, complete with beautiful weather, a little Jimmy Buffett-inspired island spirit, and live music from The Profits.

The dance floor stayed busy, the smiles were plentiful, and it was simply a great afternoon spent together. Thanks to everyone who joined in the fun and helped make it such a memorable summer celebration!

Last week, Heron’s Key had a close-up view of an important local response effort, as a Washington Department of Natural Resources helicopter used the retention pond as one of several area water sources while conducting water drops on a nearby brush fire.

We’re grateful for the first responders and crews who work to protect our communities, especially during the summer fire season, and glad this nearby resource could play a small part in their efforts.

A special thank you to our neighbor Laura San Nicolas for capturing and sharing this unique view with us.
