World Hepatitis Day is a reminder that knowing your status is an important part of protecting your health.

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by a virus. Many people with hepatitis B or hepatitis C have no symptoms, making routine screening especially important for those who are pregnant or have certain risk factors.

During pregnancy, screening for hepatitis B is a standard part of prenatal care because early detection helps protect both mother and baby. If needed, your provider can recommend additional testing, treatment, or follow-up care.

At New Horizons Women’s Care, we’re committed to providing compassionate, comprehensive care through every stage of life. Whether you’re planning a pregnancy, expecting a baby, or staying up to date on your preventive health, our team is here to support you.

Did you know that many gynecologic procedures can be performed using robotic-assisted surgery?

During robotic surgery, your surgeon controls specialized instruments from a console while viewing the surgical site through a high-definition, 3D camera. This advanced technology allows for exceptional precision, especially during delicate or complex procedures.

Some potential benefits of robotic-assisted surgery include:
• Smaller incisions
• Less postoperative pain
• Reduced scarring
• Lower risk of infection
• Greater surgical precision
• Faster recovery and a quicker return to daily activities

Depending on your diagnosis, robotic surgery may be recommended to treat conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic organ prolapse, certain gynecologic cancers, and other gynecologic concerns.

If you’ve been told you may need surgery or are experiencing symptoms that are affecting your quality of life, our experienced providers can discuss all of your treatment options and determine what is best for you.

Preventive care is one of the most important investments you can make in your health.

Routine screenings help detect potential health concerns early, often before symptoms appear, giving you the best opportunity for early treatment and better outcomes.

At New Horizons Women’s Care, we offer a variety of preventive screenings, including:

💗 Pap smears and HPV testing
💗 STI screening
💗 Mammogram referrals and breast health evaluations
💗 Fertility assessments
💗 Urodynamic testing
💗 Bone health evaluations and referrals for bone density testing

The screenings you need depend on your age, personal and family medical history, lifestyle, and individual risk factors. During your visit, your provider will discuss your health goals, answer your questions, and recommend the screenings that are right for you.

Staying up to date on preventive care is one of the best ways to protect your health today and for years to come.

Thinking about growing your family? Preconception planning is a great place to start.

If you’ve been trying to conceive or have questions about your fertility, your provider may recommend testing to better understand your reproductive health and identify any factors that could affect pregnancy.

Fertility evaluations may include:
🩸 Blood work and urine testing
👶 Pelvic ultrasounds, including saline infusion sonograms when appropriate
🔍 Testing to evaluate whether the fallopian tubes are open
🩺 Laparoscopy in select cases

These evaluations can provide valuable information about hormone levels, including progesterone, thyroid function, prolactin, ovarian reserve (egg supply), and ovulation.

Every fertility journey is unique, and not everyone will need the same testing. Our providers will work with you to determine the most appropriate evaluation based on your medical history and goals.

Whether you’re just beginning to plan for pregnancy or have been trying to conceive, New Horizons Women’s Care is here to support you every step of the way.

Could low progesterone be affecting how you feel?

Progesterone is an important hormone that helps regulate your menstrual cycle, supports sleep, balances the effects of estrogen, and plays a key role in reproductive health. As women enter their mid-30s and perimenopause, progesterone levels may begin to decline, leading to a variety of symptoms.

Some common signs of low progesterone include:
• PMS
• Shortened or irregular menstrual cycles
• Fibrocystic breast changes
• Night sweats
• Anxiety or mood changes
• Cyclic headaches
• Difficulty sleeping

Because estrogen and progesterone work together, a decline in progesterone can create a hormonal imbalance that contributes to uncomfortable symptoms. If you’ve noticed changes in your cycle or simply don’t feel like yourself, you don’t have to navigate it alone. At New Horizons Women’s Care, our providers can evaluate your symptoms, discuss hormone testing when appropriate, and develop a personalized treatment plan to help you feel your best.

Feeling bloated more often than not? Your hormones may be playing a role.

While occasional bloating is common, persistent or chronic bloating can sometimes be linked to hormonal changes or an underlying health condition. Hormones influence digestion, metabolism, and fluid balance, which is why changes in hormone levels can affect how your gut feels.

Here are a few hormonal factors that may contribute to bloating:

• Estrogen fluctuations can cause your body to retain more fluid, leading to bloating and puffiness.
• Chronic stress may affect stomach acid production, making it more difficult to digest food efficiently.
• Changes in gut bacteria can impact digestion and contribute to gas and bloating.
• Thyroid disorders, particularly hypothyroidism, can slow digestion and lead to constipation and abdominal fullness.
• Elevated cortisol levels may alter normal gut motility, contributing to digestive discomfort.

If bloating is persistent, severe, or accompanied by symptoms such as pelvic pain, changes in your menstrual cycle, unexplained weight changes, or abnormal bleeding, it is important to talk with your healthcare provider. Identifying the underlying cause is the first step toward finding relief.

At New Horizons Women’s Care, our providers can help evaluate your symptoms and determine whether hormones or another condition may be contributing to how you’re feeling.
