Day 1 of healing ❤️‍🩹

Yesterday I underwent a prophylactic double mastectomy with reconstruction at MD Anderson in Phoenix after testing positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation.

This journey has already taught me so much about strength, gratitude, slowing down, and allowing myself to be cared for.

Healing has looked quieter and softer than I expected:drain logs, compression pillows, slow walks, protein shakes, water, rest, and so much gratitude for my husband, family, friends, and medical team.

To any woman facing this surgery or navigating BRCA2 — you are not alone 🤍

Officially on my way home from my prophylactic double mastectomy & reconstruction surgery. ❤️

I know so many women are scared of this surgery, so I wanted to share honestly that right now I have ZERO pain. Mostly just feeling sleepy, tight, emotional, and very grateful.

Thank you to everyone who checked on me, prayed for me, and sent love today. This was a huge decision as a BRCA2 previvor, but I already feel peace knowing I took this step for my future and my family.

I’ll continue sharing the recovery process, healing journey, and all the real moments along the way. 💗

Today is surgery day. 💗

I’m heading to MD Anderson for my prophylactic double mastectomy due to BRCA2. This decision wasn’t easy, but it’s one I’m making for my future, my health, and my family.

I decided to share this journey because when I was first diagnosed with the BRCA mutation, hearing other women’s stories helped me feel less alone.

I’ll be sharing the real parts of this experience — the emotions, recovery, healing, reconstruction, and everything in between — in hopes that it may help someone else too.
