Thank you to ABC15 Arizona for the wonderful feature on Ellie Ucci. The Chicago native works as labor and delivery nurse at Banner Health - helping parents with their new bundles of joy. While most people are looking forward to retirement, Ellie looks forward to coming in every day to help make a difference in the lives of our patients. Thank you, Ellie, for all you do!

For Ellie Ucci, it’s never just another day at the office but more like another day in a life well lived. Even at an early age, her path to this point seemed to be destiny.

The expanded area of the Women and Infant Services unit at Banner Gateway Medical Center is now open! It is part of a 351,000-square-foot addition that essentially doubles the size of BGMC. The unit, located in the new five-story patient tower, addresses the need for enhanced women and infant care, including labor, delivery and postpartum. This includes a new neonatal intensive care unit for babies that need extra care.

A beautiful new outdoor space will also be available exclusively for Women and Infant Services patients.

The full campus expansion will also include added space for inpatient cancer care by Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, and more space for surgical, emergency, endoscopy and imaging services. Licensed inpatient beds will increase from 177 to 286. The full campus expansion will open on March 21.

As part of its comprehensive oncology program, the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center Surgical Oncology Division offers innovative surgical options. In January, the Banner MD Anderson surgery team performed the first Whipple procedure using the DaVinci Xi surgical robotic platform at this location. The Whipple procedure is a complex, multi-step surgery used in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. The robotic platform allows the surgeon to use a minimally invasive approach with smaller incisions, so patients recover and return to normal activity more quickly. With options like robotic surgery the number of patients choosing Banner MD Anderson for pancreatic cancer treatment continues to grow every year, and we are happy to continue offering cutting edge surgical options for our patients. Thank you to the following team members, pictured left to right:
Kaylee Krupp, RN
Robert Bamrick, Jr, surgical technologist
Dr. Epameinondas Dogeas, surgeon
Dr. Rajesh Ramanathan, surgeon
Ryan Uerkvitz, physician assistant
Jason Appell, specialty technologist
