Holy moly, diet culture has a way of weaving itself into nearly every aspect of our lives. It shows up in our conversations, our celebrations, our routines, and even the way we see ourselves. What really gets me is how loudly it speaks during the hardest chapters of our lives.
When we’re grieving, overwhelmed, healing, navigating treatment, adjusting to life after treatment, or simply trying to survive, diet culture is still there, whispering that our bodies should be smaller, “better,” or more controlled. Instead of giving us permission to rest, nourish ourselves, and extend ourselves compassion, it piles on guilt and impossible expectations.
The truth is that our hardest seasons deserve care, not criticism. Our worth is not measured by our weight, our appearance, or how well we can manage our bodies while carrying so much. We deserve support, grace, and the freedom to focus on healing without the constant pressure to change ourselves.
I’d love to hear from you. When have you noticed diet culture showing up during or after treatment or another difficult season of your life? Was it something someone said, an expectation you felt, or a belief you found yourself carrying?
