Keratoacanthomas are considered by most to be a subtype of Squamous Cell Carcinoma. If you notice a new spot that’s growing quickly, don’t ignore. Early evaluation is key. 🔑

📸 Before, During, and After Mohs Surgery

⚠️ Trigger Warning: The second slide contains a graphic surgical image.

This patient underwent Mohs surgery with Dr. Ali Rkein to remove a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) with a nodulo-infiltrative growth pattern.

The skin cancer was subtle and partially hidden by the patient’s mustache, so the purple biopsy marking is more noticeable than the skin cancer itself. A nodulo-infiltrative BCC has both a nodular component and an infiltrative component, meaning portions of the tumor can extend beyond what is visible on the surface. Mohs surgery removes the cancer layer by layer while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.

Early detection and treatment are key. If you notice a spot that isn’t healing or continues to change, schedule a skin check!
