Can you spot the skin cancer? Swipe through to see where it was hiding 🔍
 
This subtle spot turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma (BCC), identified by Dylan Irish, PA-C during the patient’s skin exam. On dermoscopy, Dylan noted an erythematous base with arborizing vessels, prompting a biopsy that confirmed BCC. Because of its location, this BCC will be treated with Mohs surgery by our Mohs surgeon, Dr. Rkein.
 
☀️ Skin cancers aren’t always obvious, which is why regular skin exams matter. If you notice a spot that’s new, changing, or just doesn’t look right, have it checked.

Actinic keratoses (AKs) are precancerous spots caused by cumulative sun damage. If untreated a small subset of AKs can develop into Squamous Cell Carcinoma. This patient completed 2 weeks of twice-daily treatment with prescription fluorouracil 5% cream to treat the visible and underlying sun-damaged areas.
