Sometimes the best stories start as a side project…this is a little long but worth the read! A few years ago, Luke had the opportunity to purchase a Landrace gilt from David AND Mark Korb. At the time, we never envisioned building a Landrace herd - we simply wanted a decent purebred gilt to show in Perry. After she "No Saled" at WTC and her littermate went on to win OYE, we decided to bring her home and see what she could do. Fast forward to today, and that decision has become the foundation of Luke's bred-and-owned program. In 2025, we leased a gilt out and when she returned we decided to breed her to Pay Your Bills and the result was a litter that exceeded every expectation we had. In fact, due to construction delays, this sow farrowed under the same carport - yes a carport - she was born under in the year prior. Not exactly a state-of-the-art setup, but proof that good stock, good care, and good genetics still matter. We knew this litter was special from the start. With Luke's summer schedule, keeping pigs on feed wasn't an option, so we entrusted them to a few outstanding families and exhibitors who have done an incredible job bringing them along.

For a small herd that wasn't supposed to be much more than a Bred & Owned project, this litter has already accomplished more than we imagined. More importantly, these pigs continue to validate what we believed from the beginning - elite Landrace genetics can compete anywhere when given the opportunity. And the best part…we are just getting started. We couldn't be more excited to watch the rest of this litter compete throughout the summer and beyond.
