Join us at 5pm, August 26, here at The Nicol Home for our groundbreaking event for The Cottages at Nicol Home - our new independent senior living units! We will have our development plans for the units out on display at the event, and there will be contact forms for anyone interested in more information when we begin finding occupants for each cottage.

Our friends from Paradise Eats LLC will also be here serving their usual menu for public purchase, however - the first 100 people will receive a free signature lemonade courtesy of Nicol Home. Hope to see you there!

THE NICOL HOME, INC. RECEIVES $450,000 TO LAUNCH NEW SENIOR INDEPENDENT LIVING COTTAGE PROJECT

GLASCO, Kan. — July 20, 2026 — The Nicol Home, Inc. is pleased to announce it has received $450,000 from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, to kickstart the construction of eight new independent living cottages designed to expand quality housing options for seniors in the Glasco community.

The new development will consist of eight freestanding cottages, each featuring two bedrooms and one bathroom, providing comfortable, accessible, and private living spaces for older adults who wish to maintain their independence while remaining close to supportive services and the local community.

Each cottage will include in-unit laundry hookups, allowing residents the convenience of doing laundry from the comfort of their own home. In addition, the development will offer on-site parking stalls for residents and their visitors. Dwellers will also have access to meal-plans, limited nursing care, and optional transportation assistance.
Construction is anticipated to begin in Fall of 2026, with completion expected in Spring of 2027, pending weather and construction timelines. The construction will be led by Rural Development Group, who is constructing homes in several other surrounding communities in Clay Center, Concordia, Beloit and Minneapolis.

"This project represents an exciting investment in the future of senior housing in our community," said Carter Olson, Nicol Home Administrator since 2018. "As the need for quality independent living options continues to grow, these cottages will provide seniors with safe, modern, and comfortable homes while allowing them to remain connected to the community they know and love."

Open since 1964, The Nicol Home, Inc. has a long-standing commitment to serving seniors in north-central Kansas by providing quality housing and skilled nursing care options that promote dignity, independence, and well-being with an emphasis on individualizing care to each of our elders - an important part of our priorities as a non-profit led by a team of local individuals who serve on the Board of Directors. The addition of these independent living cottages reflects the organization's ongoing mission to meet the evolving needs of older adults and their families.

A pre-sale for any available units will take place in the coming months until all units have been filled. Additional updates on the project, including construction progress and future leasing information, will be shared as they become available.

Welp, some days we sure seem like a zoo - but today was for good reason. Our friends from Rolling Hills Zoo came and gave a wonderful presentation on their animals - even bringing some of their special animal visitors!

The Nicol Home has always taken pride in our care, including maintaining excelled 1 to 8 care ratios for our CNA’s. This fall, we have more than usual going back to school or moving on to further their education and careers - resulting in a few opportunities to join our wonderful community.

It might have been the end of our Employee Appreciation and Spirit Week, but Beach Day did not disappoint! 🏝️ We enjoyed our own “beach” outside Nicol Home with drinks and s’mores, some papering when we came back inside. Hope you all enjoyed our times this week as much as we did!

Today’s crew aced their outfits for Young vs Old Day during our annual Employee Appreciation and Spirit Week. 🍼 Our activities included getting some sweet tattoos, a Show-n-Tell session and smiles all around!

Today at Nicol Home we showed our spirit off for Pirates vs. Princesses Day - for our annual Employee Appreciation and Spirit Week! Of course we had a hidden treasure hunt around the facility, and even a magician Sammi Kat & Hoan the illusionist who were perfectly paired with our theme. Enjoy the scenes from today’s action! 🏴‍☠️
