Honored to be speaking at the American Optometric Association (AOA) Optometry's meeting in Phoenix in just a few weeks!

I’ll be presenting on topics that are especially important to my clinical practice, including the role of vision in patients with concussion, vestibular disorders, and complex neuro-optometric presentations. As our understanding of these patients continues to evolve, collaboration between optometry and the broader rehabilitation team has never been more important.

I’m looking forward to connecting with colleagues from across the country, sharing clinical insights, and learning from the incredible lineup of speakers including a number of my Intrepid Eye Society peers!

If you’ll be attending AOA in Phoenix, I’d love to connect!

Excited to be presenting this June 6 on CEwire: Prism Pearls: Practical Prescribing Strategies for Adult Diplopia

Prism prescribing can be one of the most rewarding — and challenging — aspects of clinical practice. Adult patients with diplopia often present with complex combinations of neurologic, sensory, vestibular, and binocular vision complaints that don’t always fit neatly into textbook patterns.

In this lecture, we’ll focus on practical, real-world approaches to:
• Evaluating symptomatic adult diplopia
• Determining when prism is — and is not — appropriate and when labwork and imaging needs to be ordered.
• Small-angle vs large-angle prescribing strategies
• Common prescribing pitfalls and how to avoid them

Ever prescribe prism that should work… but the patient comes back miserable? 😬

You’re not alone. Join me this weekend for my lecture: Prism Pearls (1/31 on CEwire), we’ll break down:
- Why “textbook” prism fails in real patients
- How fixation, suppression, and sensory status change everything
- Small prescribing adjustments that make a huge difference

This is not a “rules only” lecture—this is about clinical judgment and pattern recognition.

Prism prescribing can be incredibly powerful… and incredibly frustrating 😅
On 1/31, I’ll be presenting “Prism Pearls” on CEwire—an OD-focused lecture packed with practical, clinic-ready strategies.

We’ll talk about:
- When prism truly helps (and when it absolutely doesn’t)
- Common prescribing pitfalls I see all the time
- How to improve patient comfort, adaptation, and outcomes

If prism has ever felt like a guessing game, this course is for you.

Last but not least... Excited to present a live webinar lecture tomorrow afternoon for the Brain Injury Association of America at 3pm EST "Visual Dysfunction after Concussion - When to Rehab, When to Refer, and When it is a Red Flag"

Join me to learn about post-concussion visual symptoms the most common—and most misunderstood—issues following concussion. This webinar is designed to help rehab professionals, including physiatrists, occupational and physical therapists recognize red flags in vision symptoms, understand the clinical boundaries of vision rehabilitation, and identify which visual symptoms indicate the need for referral to optometry or ophthalmology including the urgency of the complaint and timing of referrals.

The Dream Team is back - Join Sara Etheredge, DPT & Jacqueline Theis, OD at the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission Conference on October 28!

We’ll be presenting on Visual Work Hardening — a structured, progressive rehabilitation program designed for patients whose visual, vestibular, cervical, and sensory integration symptoms are interfering with their ability to return to work.

This approach focuses on restoring both visual endurance and functional tolerance through:
• Visual-vestibular retraining
• Cervical & postural rehab
• Oculomotor & sensorimotor integration
• Work simulation & graded task exposure

We’re looking forward to sharing how this innovative, interdisciplinary model can help patients safely and successfully re-enter the workplace.
