🧠 Could your community group benefit from a stroke education session?

Bare Face RVA is offering community-focused stroke education sessions designed to help individuals and groups better understand stroke, warning signs, and risk factors that can be managed.

Led by Dr. Sherita Chapman, a fellowship-trained vascular neurologist, these sessions are created to be practical, easy to understand, and focused on prevention and awareness.

Topics can include:

✔️ What is a stroke?
✔️ How to recognize stroke warning signs
✔️ When to call 911
✔️ Common stroke risk factors
✔️ Blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, smoking, sleep apnea, and lifestyle factors
✔️ What happens after a stroke
✔️ How families and communities can support prevention and recovery

These sessions can be customized for churches, community groups, senior organizations, women’s groups, workplace wellness programs, and local organizations.

The goal is simple:

Your brain and nervous system control everything you do—from how you think and move to how you feel and function every day. But what happens when something goes wrong?

That’s where a neurologist comes in.

Neurologists specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions like migraines, stroke, memory loss, seizures, and nerve disorders. Whether it’s helping someone manage chronic headaches or recover after a stroke, our goal is simple: protect your brain health and improve your quality of life.

If you’ve ever wondered what symptoms like frequent headaches, numbness, dizziness, or memory changes could mean, it may be time to learn more.

🧠 Stroke Signs & Symptoms: Know FAST

When it comes to stroke, every minute matters. Recognizing the warning signs early can help save brain function — and even save a life.

Remember FAST:

Face drooping
Arm weakness
Speech difficulty
Time to call 911

Other possible stroke symptoms can include sudden numbness, confusion, trouble seeing, dizziness, loss of balance, or a severe sudden headache.

At Bare Face RVA, we believe brain health education matters. Knowing what to look for — and acting quickly — can make all the difference.

If you notice stroke symptoms in yourself or someone else, call 911 immediately.

Knowledge saves lives.

A stroke follow-up is about much more than “checking in after the hospital.”

Post-stroke care can include:
• Understanding what caused the stroke
• Lowering the risk of another stroke
• Reviewing medications like aspirin, antiplatelets, or blood thinners
• Managing blood pressure and cholesterol
• Screening for fatigue, depression, memory change, and spasticity
• Helping patients return to work, driving, and daily life safely
• Coordinating with primary care, cardiology, and rehabilitation

This is part of why Bare Face RVA is adding post-stroke management to its services.

Too often, patients leave the hospital without anyone truly guiding the long-term picture of recovery and prevention.

As a fellowship-trained vascular neurologist, Dr. Sherita Chapman knows that stroke care does not end at discharge — and that thoughtful follow-up can make a meaningful difference.

What Is a Neurologist?

Many people have heard the word, but aren’t quite sure what we do.

A neurologist is a physician who specializes in disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. That includes conditions like migraine, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neuropathy, memory disorders, and more.

If it affects how you think, move, feel, or function — a neurologist is often involved.

In this video, I break down:

- What neurologists actually treat
- When you should see one
- The difference between neurology and other specialties

Understanding your brain health is empowering. Take a moment to watch and share with someone who might be wondering if neurology could help them.

🧠✨ Brain Awareness Week | Protect Your Brain Health ✨🧠

Your brain is your most powerful asset — it controls your thoughts, memory, mood, movement, and how you experience the world.

Did you know that migraine is one of the most common and disabling neurologic conditions worldwide? It affects about 1 in 7 people and is more than “just a headache” .

Migraine is a real neurologic disorder involving complex brain networks — not a sinus issue, not stress alone, and not something you should just “push through”.

🚩 If you experience:

Recurrent throbbing or pulsating headaches
Nausea or vomiting with headache
Sensitivity to light or sound
Headaches that interfere with work or family life
Headaches occurring multiple times per month

It may be time for a neurologic evaluation.

Early and appropriate treatment can:
Reduce headache frequency
Prevent progression to chronic migraine
Improve quality of life
Help you regain control

At Bare Face RVA, we specialize in:
✔ Migraine Medicine
✔ Preventive therapies
✔ Neurologic Botox for chronic migraine
✔ Personalized treatment plans

You do not have to live in fear of your next headache.

This Brain Awareness Week, prioritize your brain health. If headaches are affecting your life, schedule an evaluation and let’s create a plan tailored to you.
