National Assisted Living Week: Through the Decades!

What an incredible week of celebration we had at The Regency Senior Living at Glen Cove as we celebrated National Assisted Living Week with our “Through the Decades” theme! Residents, staff, and companions traveled back in time each day, reminiscing and celebrating the music, fashion, memories, and milestones of the 1940s through the 1980s. From the elegance of the 1940s and the fabulous 1950s to the groovy 1960s and 1970s and the unforgettable 1980s, every day brought something new and exciting!

We even transformed The Regency into a James Bond-inspired Casino Day, complete with casino games, glamorous fun, and plenty of excitement! We actually had three real slot machines here as well. Congrats to Ellie who won the most "money" for the day. She traded in "$128,000 of her casino money" for lunch for four in the private dining room- seems fair LOL! Our 70s Day had everyone getting groovy with retro fashion, music, and fun. And throughout the entire week, daily raffles and prizes kept the excitement going for our residents, staff, and companions.

Prizes included luggage, Tv's, Movie Tickets, NutraBullets, Luncheons, Hair Salons certificates and so much more! Congrats to all of the 15 winners!

A very special thank you to Annmarie and the entire Recreation Department for their incredible creativity, energy, hard work, and dedication. From shopping and dressing up to searching for those perfect decorations and finding all the little “odds and ends” that brought each decade to life, every detail was noticed and appreciated. You could see the love and effort behind every day, and it made the entire week truly unforgettable. Thank you for creating so many smiles, memories, laughs, and moments of joy for our Regency family!

The Regency family knows how to throw a party—and Edis and Roger, her husband, affectionately known as “Poncho,” know this better than anyone!

We recently gathered to celebrate a very special couple as they prepare to welcome their newest little bundle of joy, Baby Justin! Edis has been a cherished member of our Safe Harbor Wellness Team for 10 years, while Poncho has been part of our Dietary Team for 8 years. Together, they have become such an important part of the Regency family.

And this isn’t the first time we’ve celebrated this happy couple! A few years ago, The Regency threw them a bridal shower, and we were thrilled to have another reason to celebrate them. After all, their love story has already brought us one great party—now we get to celebrate the next chapter!

The happy couple was even married by Mayor Pam at Glen Cove City Hall, so you could say Baby Justin is coming from a family with some pretty impressive Regency connections!

Our residents and staff went above and beyond to shower Baby Justin with love—and LOTS of goodies! Together, everyone filled the nursery with an amazing collection of gifts, including a highchair, bathtub, entertainment center, adorable clothes, and enough diapers to last a lifetime! Let's just say Baby Justin is officially set!

But perhaps the most exciting gift of all is something that money can’t buy—an entire Regency family of babysitters! Our residents were already lining up to volunteer for babysitting duty, offering plenty of cuddles, stories, advice, and probably a few tips for Mom and Dad along the way! Also, Auntie Suyapa was there, Edis' sister and a waitress in our dining room!

There was plenty of laughter, excitement, love, and of course, lots of talk about who gets to hold the baby first! The celebration ended the only way a proper Regency party should—with CAKE!

Congratulations, Edis and Poncho! Baby Justin is already surrounded by more love than he could ever know—and he has a whole community of honorary grandparents waiting to meet him!

CHECK US OUT: "Books are a uniquely portable magic." — Stephen King

A wonderful new resident-driven activity has been born at The Regency! Resident, Leslie, recently gathered a group of friends—including Doreen, Patricia, Carole, Susan, and Loretta—and together they created the Super Sleuth Book Club!

Their shared love of books, mystery, and suspense brought this group together, and we couldn’t be more excited to see where their literary adventures take them. Some of our residents enjoy reading one book a month, while others can’t put a great book down and read four books a month!

The group held their very first meeting in our Private Dining Room, where they also completed applications to receive their very own Glen Cove Public Library cards. Of course, no book club gathering would be complete without a little something delicious! The ladies enjoyed pound cake, cookies, and coffee as they chatted away, shared their love of reading, and got to know one another even better.

Their first selection is Do Not Disturb by Freida McFadden, a psychological thriller filled with mystery and suspense.

What a wonderful way to connect, build friendships, stimulate the mind, and share a passion for a great story—one page at a time!

90 never looked so good! Millie celebrated her milestone birthday in true Regency style—with family, friends, fabulous music, plenty of laughter, and a little Rat Pack magic!

A very special thank you to Millie’s daughter, Carmela, for treating not only her Mom but all of our residents to an afternoon filled with unforgettable entertainment featuring the legendary sounds and personalities of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin! The room was filled with classic songs, toe-tapping music, big smiles, and lots of laughter.

Millie, gorgeous as ever, loved every minute of the show. She laughed at the comedic humor, enjoyed the familiar songs, and even had her own front-row VIP experience sitting beside her best friend, Joel, who kept her laughing and smiling throughout the celebration. ❤️

There’s something extra special about celebrating a milestone birthday surrounded by the people who make life so meaningful. Millie was beaming as she enjoyed time with her family, friends, and her Regency family. From the first song to the final laugh, she truly soaked up every moment—and we loved watching her enjoy her special day!

May the years ahead continue to bring her music in her heart, laughter in her days, wonderful friends by her side, and plenty of reasons to celebrate!
