🐴 Equine Health Spotlight: Pneumonia Awareness 🩺
Pneumonia in horses is a serious respiratory condition that requires prompt veterinary attention. It can affect foals, performance horses, and seniors alike, often developing from bacterial, viral, or fungal infections—or even secondary to stressors like transport or strenuous exercise.
⚠️ Common signs to watch for:
• Fever
• Nasal discharge
• Coughing (note: the presence of a cough can vary between cases)
• Increased respiratory effort
• Decreased appetite or performance
One of the most important indicators is increased respiratory effort—watch for nostril flaring, rapid breathing, or abdominal effort.
Horses with underlying chronic respiratory conditions, such as equine asthma (heaves/COPD), may be more susceptible to developing pneumonia and may require closer monitoring.
Early diagnosis and treatment are key to a successful outcome. Veterinary care may include diagnostics such as ultrasound or radiographs, along with targeted antimicrobial therapy and supportive care.
✅ Prevention tips:
• Maintain good ventilation in barns
• Minimize dust and mold exposure
• Practice proper biosecurity
• Support immune health during times of stress
If you notice any respiratory changes in your horse, don’t wait—contact us right away.
Healthy lungs = happy horses 💙

✨ Shockwave Therapy for Horses: Advanced Care, Proven Results ✨
Did you know extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a powerful, non-invasive treatment option for many equine injuries? 🐎
Shockwave therapy uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissues. It’s commonly used to treat:
✔️ Tendon and ligament injuries
✔️ Suspensory desmitis
✔️ Back and pelvic pain
✔️ Stress fractures and bone bruising
✔️ Chronic lameness
💥 How it helps:
• Improves blood flow to injured areas
• Reduces pain and inflammation
• Stimulates tissue repair and regeneration
• Helps horses return to performance faster
Most horses tolerate the procedure well, and treatments are quick with minimal downtime.
📅 If your horse is struggling with a lingering injury or performance issue, shockwave therapy may be an excellent addition to their treatment plan.

🐎✨ Enhancing Healing & Performance with Renovo Therapy ✨🐎
At our practice, we’re always looking for innovative ways to support your horse’s health, comfort, and performance—and that’s why we’re excited to offer Renovo Therapy!
🐎 What it is
• Renovo is a liquid amniotic tissue allograft (not a typical supplement or ointment).
• It’s made from amniotic fluid and membrane collected from healthy mares after foaling.
• It’s processed, frozen, and used by veterinarians for treatment (usually injected or applied in a clinical setting).
🧬 What it does
Renovo is designed to support tissue healing and regeneration. It contains:
• Growth factors
• Cytokines
• Hyaluronic acid and proteins [renovoequine.com]
These help provide:
• Anti inflammatory effects
• Anti bacterial support
• Reduced scar tissue formation
• Faster tissue repair
💉 What it’s used for in horses
We commonly use Renovo for:
• Tendon and ligament injuries
• Joint problems or arthritis
• Wounds (including difficult or slow-healing injuries)
• Soft tissue damage
It’s often compared to or used instead of therapies like:
• PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
• Stem cell therapy
⚠️ Important notes
• It is not an over-the-counter product—it must be administered by a veterinarian.
• Results can vary depending on the injury and horse.
• It’s generally considered a regenerative therapy, not a drug or basic supplement.
Whether your horse is an athlete needing support after intense work or simply deserves extra care to stay comfortable, Renovo Therapy can be a valuable part of their wellness plan.

🧬 Polyacrylamide Gel (PAG) Therapy for Horse Joints 🐎
Have you heard about polyacrylamide gel (PAG) as a treatment option for joint issues in horses? It’s an innovative, non-surgical approach that’s gaining attention in equine veterinary medicine.
🔹 What is PAG?
Polyacrylamide gel is a biocompatible hydrogel that is injected directly into a joint. It integrates into the joint capsule and helps improve elasticity and reduce inflammation.
🔹 What does it do?
✅ Supports joint cushioning
✅ Reduces inflammation and pain
✅ Improves mobility and performance
✅ May provide longer-lasting relief compared to some traditional injections
🔹 Common uses:
PAG is often used for horses with osteoarthritis or chronic joint issues, especially when other treatments haven’t provided lasting results.
🔹 Things to consider:
✔️ Performed by a veterinarian
✔️ Not a “quick fix” — works over time as it integrates with tissue
✔️ Not suitable for every case
Common products are Arthramid and Noltrex. We choose the product based on your horse’s individual needs and the goals of treatment.
As always, talk with your equine vet to determine if this treatment is appropriate for your horse’s specific condition.

There are moments in a mentor’s journey that become memories to cherish forever.

Today, Dr. Wade Wisner had the incredible honor of placing a white coat on Megan Thompson during her White Coat Ceremony. To stand beside her as she takes this meaningful step toward a career dedicated to the health and well-being of animals is both humbling and deeply rewarding.

The white coat represents more than a profession. It symbolizes knowledge, compassion, responsibility, integrity, and a commitment to serving others. Watching Megan Thompson begin this journey is a beautiful reminder of why mentorship matters.

Dr. Wisner is incredibly proud to have played a part in Megan’s journey and looks forward to watching all that she will accomplish. Congratulations on this well-deserved milestone — your future is bright!
