Facebook asks, "What's on your mind?"

Our sweet Erica... that's what's on our mind today. ❤️

A few weeks ago, on one of our busiest wheelchair days, a patient came in for an appointment while all of our designated lobby wheelchairs were in use assisting other patients. In true Erica fashion, she apologized for the wait and promptly retrieved a wheelchair as soon as one became available.

During their conversation, the patient and his wife asked Erica if there was a need for more lobby wheelchairs. Erica explained that we certainly could use a few more to help on our busier days.

A few days later, we received a call from the patient and his wife. Through their incredible generosity, they made a donation to The Dr. Roger E. Marks Healthcare Foundation to purchase two additional wheelchairs for our front lobby.

Pictured are Erica (modeling one of the new wheelchairs), Michael Honea, Julie Whalen, Tammie Apodaca, and Brian Thomas. Tammie and Brian both serve as board members of the Marks Foundation.

We are humbled by this generous gift and extend our heartfelt thanks to the patient and his wife for their thoughtful donation.

Thank you, Erica, for your kindness, compassion, and for always recognizing and responding to the needs of our patients. We appreciate everything you do for our medical center and our community.

Extreme heat can be dangerous because it raises your body's temperature faster than it can cool itself. Spending time in high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke, especially for young children, older adults, and people who work or exercise outdoors. Warning signs of heat-related illness include dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, muscle cramps, and confusion. Paying attention to these symptoms and taking action early can help prevent serious health problems.

Staying hydrated is one of the best ways to protect yourself during extreme heat. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty, and avoid excessive amounts of alcohol or sugary drinks, which can contribute to dehydration. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, seek shade or air-conditioned spaces when possible, and limit outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day. If you must be outside, take frequent breaks and check on family members, neighbors, and pets to make sure everyone stays safe and cool.
